Waylon, the so–called tough guy with a soft heart, sulkily shoved a strawberry into his mouth and kept quiet.
“I won’t. I’m just here to study; I won’t be any trouble.”
Sure knows how to play sweet. Hope she actually means what she says. Waylon kept eating strawberries in silence.
“Eat, eat, eat–like that’s all you ever do. Dinner’s coming up and you’re still stuffing your face. with strawberries.” Andres shot him a sharp look. “What, cat got your tongue?”
“I mean, no one really comes over to my place anyway. Jasmine, if you need anything, just let me know ahead of time so I can prepare. When do you plan on coming over?”
“You’ll take Jasmine and Mathilda with you after dinner. Jasmine already brought all her things. If anything’s missing, go out and buy it later.” Andres still sounded utterly unimpressed with him, then turned back to Jasmine. “Whatever you need, just ask Waylon- don’t be polite.”
“I don’t need anything in particular.” Jasmine nodded calmly at Waylon. “Sorry for the trouble.”
All packed and ready and still pretending? Does she think I’m an idiot? Waylon scoffed inwardly. Just wait. If I don’t teach her a lesson she won’t forget, I’ll hang up my pride and throw in the towel.
“Not a bother at all.” Waylon smiled like he meant every word.
Andres finally looked satisfied.
When Mathilda called them for dinner, the four of them moved to the dining room. Throughout the meal, Andres kept piling food onto Jasmine’s plate.
He didn’t seem to care about her cool, indifferent expression one bit and kept asking about her family. Even when her answers were vague at best, he look positively delighted.

Finally, after dinner, Mathilda had everything packed. The three of them set off for Waylon’s place.
When they reached the car, Waylon hit the unlock button. In a flash, Mathilda tossed a heap of groceries onto the back seat, then climbed in herself with a cheerful smile.
“My heart’s not in great shape–Jasmine should sit in the front.”
Waylon’s eye twitched. He opened the trunk and loaded Jasmine’s luggage, then walked to the passenger side, opened the door, and motioned for her to get

Jasmine floated into the seat like a feather, and Waylon raised a brow. Interesting Girl doesn’t walk, she glides.
He
got behind the wheel, shut the door, and hit the gas. The car shot forward. Jasmine had already buckled up, sitting perfectly still, but in the back seat, Mathilda leaned back with a dramatic gasp.
“Waylon, not so fast! My heart can’t take it!”
“Haha, you don’t trust my driving?” Waylon laughed, throwing the steering wheel with flair. “You’re in safe hands. I’ll get you both there in one piece. This is my brand–new Land Rover
-custom modified.”
From the back seat, Mathilda grabbed a handful of green onions from a grocery bag and stuck them between the front seats.
“If you don’t slow down, I’m jamming this right up your nose.”
The mood instantly chilled. Jasmine felt the car jerk, then gradually slow down.
After a while, Waylon rolled down the window. A thin, cool breeze drifted in, calming the restless energy in the car. Outside, headlights glided past, neon lights stretched in long lines. and tall buildings loomed along the road. The city’s noise and bustle suddenly felt like they belonged to a different world.
Waylon glanced at Jasmine, still motionless in the front seat, and asked with a playful grin,
“You trained in something? You’ve got a solid stance. For s of control, you must’ve been through some rough stuff.”
