Compliments flew back and forth across the room. Freya, watching the scene unfold in front of her, couldn’t help but find it a little funny; still, she felt a twinge of reluctance. After all, this was the very first show she had worked on in this world.
Clara sat beside her, occasionally leaning over to chat. Over the course of the production, Freya and Clara had formed a decent friendship. Even if they didn’t fully confide in each other, there was enough familiarity to speak somewhat candidly.
“I’ve noticed your mind’s either buried in your script or glued to your husband,” Clara said, leaning in close and speaking softly near Freya’s ear. “Just a heads–up–our leads seem to have developed a little something between them lately. If rumors start flying, don’t go making any statements. The fans won’t go easy on you just because of Mr. Graham.”
“Those two? It happened during this shoot?” Freya found herself wondering if she had missed something. Come to think of it, she really hadn’t paid much attention to the male and female leads‘ private lives.
But honestly, what’s the point of digging into someone else’s love life? It’s not like I’m that bored. That thought clearly showed on her face, and Clara had to explain.
“Don’t think this stuff isn’t important. I know your usual environment isn’t this messy, but this industry’s different. Even as the screenwriter, the fire can still reach you. Fans are the absolute worst, and there’s not much you can do about them.”
Clara broke it down patiently.
“Take what I just said. If something really does happen and fans catch wind of it, they’ll start harassing everyone else in the cast to defend their idol’s ‘purity.’ If they come to you and you stay silent, they’ll call you cold–hearted. But if you say something, someone will twist your words. Either way, it’s a hassle. I just don’t want you getting dragged into something because you didn’t know the full picture. As long as you’re aware, that’s enough.”
Freya knew Clara meant well, but-“Didn’t the female lead already have a sugar daddy?”
“Oh come on, that guy’s not even around right now. And let’s be honest, most sugar daddies don’t care. It’s not like they’re planning to marry the girl–who cares if the canary in the cage is loyal or not?”

So Freya nodded. “Thanks for the heads–up.”
“No need for that.” Clara clinked glasses with her. Freya’s glass was filled with juice, and no one pushed her to drink alcohol. She took a polite sip, and the two of them drifted into conversation about other things.
After dinner, Freya headed back early. The next morning, Louis made time to come pick her

She didn’t have much luggage. Louis carried it all with one hand and held Freya’s hand with the other. On the way out, they ran into a few people who stopped to greet her; Louis just stood quietly as she chatted with them, not saying a word. Even when people greeted him directly, he simply nodded–perfectly embodying the role of a supportive partner.
It wasn’t until they walked out of the hotel that Freya finally laughed. “Why didn’t you say anything back there? I think Old Ma was seriously starting to wonder if something was wrong with you. Actually, now that I think about it, you’ve never really talked to the people I know, have you?”
“They’re your friends. I shouldn’t butt in. My dad told me when I was little–when your wife’s talking, a man shouldn’t interrupt.”
“Well, your dad sounds like an interesting man.”
Louis turned his head and glanced at her, noting that she hadn’t reacted at all to how he referred to his father. A quiet smile flickered in his eyes. “Yeah, he’s a guy who really enjoys life. He and my mom are always laughing together.”
Once the luggage was loaded into the trunk, Freya climbed into the passenger seat. Louis handed her a paper bag. She opened it and found pastries inside.
“You bought these this morning?” she asked.
“Thought you might sleep in and not have time for breakfast. Have a little something first- then once we’re home, we’ll figure out lunch.” Louis started the car, and the two of them officially said goodbye to this place and began their journey home.
They stopped for lunch at a private kitchen–style restaurant. The meal was delicious. Freya had originally planned to head home afterward, but Louis had a full workload waiting at the office.
