So this was his way of asking her to come keep him company. Freya, gracious as ever, nodded. “Of course I’ll go. I’ll hang out with you–once I’ve had a nap, you can get back to work and I’ll sit off to the side researching and writing.”
Louis looked visibly pleased.
This marked Freya’s first official step into Louis‘ office–as the woman of the house.
The private room wasn’t huge, about the size of a small bedroom, but in a place like this, having a whole bedroom to rest in was already a luxury.
The bed inside looked incredibly comfortable–a compact double. As Louis led her in, he casually explained,
“Derek set this up a while ago.”
“Oh please, I wasn’t about to accuse you of hiding a mistress in a gilded cage,” Freya teased, pushing him toward the door with a laugh. “Go work, earn us some money. I’m gonna nap.”
Louis couldn’t help but chuckle as well; he slipped out and quietly shut the door behind him.
Freya really was tired. She’d gone to bed late last night, woke up early this morning, and the adrenaline from wrapping up the job had kept her running. Now that she was fed and resting, sleepiness hit her full force. After a quick rinse, she lay down and fell asleep almost instantly.
Meanwhile, Louis sat at his desk in noticeably better spirits than usual as he worked through a stack of files.
A subordinate came in to give a report, only managing to get out a single “Mr. Graham” before Louis raised a finger to his lips.
Jake froze for a second, completely baffled, but he didn’t dare say anything else. He walked over and handed Louis the file, just about to speak when Louis beat him to it.
“Keep your voice down. My wife’s sleeping in the back.”
Ah. That explained it. Wait a minute, was it just me, or did Mr. Graham’s tone sound proud? Jake told himself he must’ve imagined/it.
Still, he couldn’t help but feel tragically unlucky.

Just yesterday–literally yesterday–he’d gotten into a fight with his girlfriend. This morning, he had to come in for overtime, hadn’t even had a chance to make up with her, and now, after busting his butt to get everything ready for the report, he gets a big ol‘ mouthful of PDA to go with it.
This life is getting impossible to live…
Still, he had to earn money. No money meant no gifts for the girlfriend. Jake sucked it up, Nowered his voice, and said,
“These are the orders from yesterday. I’ve already organized everything–just need your signature.”
Louis nodded and didn’t even say a word. He just waved a hand toward the door, silently dismissing him.
As Jake exited, he ran into another colleague heading in with more documents. The grabbed his arm. “What’s Mr. Graham’s mood like today?”

Louis wasn’t the type to lose his temper at subordinates, but when he stared you down with that cold, expressionless look, the pressure was enough to make anyone second–guess themselves. That kind of quiet intensity was worse than getting yelled at–it made you question your very existence.
Jake chuckled dryly. “Nah, he’s in a good mood today. Really good. You’ll be fine.”
More than just fine, he thought. When he told me to quiet down, he looked toward the room with this soft look on his face–I thought I was hallucinating.
Of course, when he turned back to me, it was the same old frosty exterior.
Today, it wasn’t just the usual poker face–no, you also had to deal with his energy. But hey, if he had to suffer through it, he sure wasn’t going to suffer alone.

His coworker lit up with glee and rushed toward Louis‘ office, while Jake headed back to his desk, expression tight, silently waiting for the fallout.
Sure enough, it didn’t take long. That same colleague soon returned, face full of existential dread.
A few others who were also prepping reports couldn’t help but ask what happened. The guy gave them a look that was hard to describe, then finally muttered,
“People in love… they’re either idiots, or they turn into someone completely unrecognizable.”

“It’s nothing, really. Just that Mrs. Graham came to the office. And Mr. Graham–well, he made it crystal clear that he might be totally whipped one day. So moving forward, show Mrs. Graham some extra respect.”
The whole office erupted in groans–especially the female employees.
“Mr. Graham isn’t the same anymore!”
“Please, when was he ever really one of us?” someone else shot back. “Honestly, I think we should all be giving props to Mrs. Graham. She’s the one who managed to land that untouchable iceberg. She’s not even fazed when he’s all cold and stoic.”
One of the female coworkers looked genuinely baffled.
