Chapter 270 Quiet Hours
Louis didn’t seem too concerned. “Keep reading. I’ve got a few more documents to finish -won’t take long. Then we’ll go cat.”
“Okay. I’m not in a rush. Take your time.”
Freya snuggled back into her seat and kept reading.
up
Louis really was fast. In no time, he’d wrapped up his work and took Freya out for something delicious.
Derek, who got to leave work early and didn’t have to drive Louis, felt like the happiest man alive. Ever since Freya came back, things had been so much easier–no more overtime. He could go home, play some video games, and hang out with his cat.
For that reason alone, Derek was fully, unwaveringly on Team Freya. Even if it was just for the sake of his peaceful and simple life, he wanted Louis to stay happily in love.
It had been a while since she’d been home, and now that she was back, everything felt extra cozy. The moment Freya walked in, she kicked off her shoes and ran inside, took a deep breath, stretched her arms wide, then turned back to Louis with a beaming smile.
“This is perfect. Feels just like home.”
But the second she turned around, she saw the gaming pod–and her eyes lit up.
She practically skipped over. “A gaming pod? You really got two of them!”
Louis strolled in, unhurried. “Didn’t you say you wanted to game? I figured you’d be excited, so I had them delivered ahead of time.”
Then Freya suddenly thought of something. “Wait a second–doesn’t that mean I could’ve played games at the office this afternoon? Why didn’t you remind me?”
Looking at luxury goods wasn’t half as fun as gaming; she instantly felt regret bubble up.
“I forgot too,” Louis said calmly, In his heart, he shook his head. If she’d started gaming, how was I supposed to keep looking at her?
“Go get your stuff ready.”
The moment Freya saw the gaming pod, she perked right up. She’d been working nonstop,
and even though it had been satisfying, nothing beat the joy of playing games.
She showered like she was preparing for battle, then packed up her things in record time. Once done, she bounced over to Louis, who was looking at his phone. With her cutest voice, she leaned in and asked,
“Boss, wanna go play games with me?”
When Freya turned on the charm, she was dangerously effective. Her big eyes sparkled at him; Louis, who had been planning to say no, found himself caving. He pulled her into his arms, kissed her, and couldn’t bring himself to refuse.
“Okay. But not for too long.”
It had been ages since she last played, and at first, Freya was a little out of practice. But the excitement quickly kicked in. The game’s visuals were vivid and immersive, and soon she was dragging Louis around on a mount, exploring every corner.
They played for two straight hours before Louis gently reminded her to log off.
“Are you hungry? Want a late–night snack?” Freya was surprised to realize she was a little hungry–it was only nine o’clock. “Nine already? Feels too early to go to bed.”
Normally, Louis would’ve gone back to work at night; but with Freya home, the house that once felt cold and empty was now full of warmth. Work was the last thing on his mind–he just wanted to be near her.
He knew Freya wouldn’t be thrilled if he spent their evenings glued to his desk, so he’d already decided, whatever Freya wanted to do tonight, he was doing it with her.
“I’m not hungry, but if you want to eat, I’ll join you.”
Freya grinned and pulled out some noodles she’d prepped. “Let’s have instant noodles, then?”
Louis had no objections.
Half an hour later, each of them held a bowl of noodles in their hands, curled up in front of the computer watching a movie. Louis discovered something new about Freya–she loved to roast movies as she watched.
Watching movies with Freya was a whole experience. She made hilarious comments about over–the–top plotlines, pointed out costume and prop mistakes, and questioned cheesy dialogue. Watching a movie with her felt more like watching a comedy sketch.
Louis had never cared much for movies, but watching with Freya… he actually found it kind
of fun.
They ate, they laughed, and when the movie ended, they each went to rest. The next day, Aiden was coming back. Freya hesitated, then decided not to go to the office with Louis. She wanted to stay home and make something tasty for the little guy.
Just before leaving, Louis waved her over. Freya ran to him–only to be caught off guard when he pulled her into his arms and kissed her. Still dazed, she heard him sigh. His voice carried just a hint of helplessness and complaint, “Don’t you even know you’re supposed to give me a goodbye kiss?”
