Freya froze, completely blanking out. She didn’t even know what she was thinking at the time–she suddenly reached up, wrapped her arms around Louis‘ neck, yanked him down, and kissed him.
Louis couldn’t hide the amusement in his eyes if he tried. He wrapped his arm around her waist and deepened the kiss.
It wasn’t until the kiss ended that Freya finally realized what she had done. Her cheeks flushed hot and red; by the time Louis let her go, her legs were a little weak.
Once she was free, she didn’t even dare look at him. She gave him a push toward the door. “Go on, get back to work and earn money to support me and Aiden.”
Louis patted her head. “Alright. I’ll work hard and make lots of money–for you to spend.”
After he left, Aiden came home that morning. The moment Freya opened the door, the little guy threw himself into her arms, his voice dripping with honey.
“Freya, I missed you so, so much! You left for so long. Uncle’s been so busy with work, he didn’t have any time to keep me company.
“Hah, if I hadn’t seen all the fun stuff you posted on your social media, I might’ve believed that. Freya tapped her index finger against Aiden’s forehead. “Even though you’re a sly little rascal, you’re still a total sweetheart. What do you want to eat?”
Aiden grinned and hugged her around the waist. “I want to eat so many things! You were gone forever, and I didn’t get to eat anything good. It was tragic!”
“I know you’re just sweet–talking me to get what you want, but since you’re being make something for you anyway. Go ahead and make a list–I’ll mix and match.”
Aiden’s expression shifted; he suddenly looked very serious.

“I mean it. Sure, uncle’s got money now, and he can buy whatever he wants–no matter how expensive–but none of that food tastes like home. It’s not as good as your cooking. It just feels different. You know what I mean?”
Freya patted his head. “I get it/Don’t worry–I’m back now. You can eat whatever you want. Aren’t you on break for a week? I’ll make sure to spoil you while you’re home.”
Aiden lit up, perfectly content.

No one could blame him for missing Freya. He’d thought that having his uncle around meant he’d have a home; but even with his uncle there, it wasn’t the same. Louis was always buried in work–either leaving him with people at the research institute or dropping him off at various clubs,
There was never any true sense of belonging. Only when Freya was there did it feel like
home.
After writing out all the things he wanted to eat, Aiden shuffled back over to Freya and clung to her arm as she studied the menu. Tilting his little face up toward her, he asked–almost nervously-
“Freya, are you ever going to leave me and uncle?”
“Probably not,” Freya said, her feelings now completely different from before. She tilted her head toward Aiden and said, “Louis told me he likes me, and I think I might be falling for him too. So I probably won’t leave. I mean, I never imagined I’d fall for your uncle, but now that I have, we’re giving this relationship a shot. If it works out and we get along, maybe we’ll really end up married someday.”
Aiden’s eyes lit up with joy. “So you and my uncle are real lovers now? That’s amazing! You two are perfect together–Freya, you’re so kind, and my uncle’s amazing too. There’s no way it won’t work out!”
Freya gave him a gentle pat on the head. “You sure have a lot of confidence in us.”
Aiden rubbed the spot she patted, completely unfazed, and leaned in with a playful smile.
“Freya, listen–my uncle’s a total rookie when it comes to relationships. Don’t let his cool vibe fool you; he’s never even had a girlfriend. I didn’t used to like you much, but the you now is really likable. If my uncle ever messes up or does something wrong, just tell him- he’ll fix it.”
Freya didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. This little guy is so worried I’ll ditch Louis…
“Don’t be ridiculous. Your uncle’s a really good guy. He’s just a little picky, that’s all. And it’s not like I’ve had any serious relationships either, so we’re pretty evenly matched. Neither of us has room to complain.”
In his heart, Aiden gave himself a triumphant “Yay!” gesture, but on the outside, he just nodded carnestly. “You got this–you’re totally gonna love each other forever and grow old together!”
Whether or not they’d grow old together, Freya didn’t know; but she did know she had to

She said she likes you too, so you have to work hard and win her over right now!”
