Well, yeah–there really was no logical explanation for this. Kendrick paused, raised an eyebrow, and said, “Freya, you’ve got to be hiding something. I’m Louis‘ best friend. Can’t you give me a little tip?”
Baylon caught on instantly, cupping his face in his hands with a pleading look.
“Freya, I get crushed every time we play cards. Won’t you take pity on me? We’re really suffering here–we dream of winning even once!”
The tone was absolutely pitiful. But Freya, smiling sweetly, was completely unmoved. “Don’t even try acting cute. You’re not Aiden–you’re not that adorable. And you two really think I don’t know what you’re up to? You were trying to hustle me earlier, and now you want me to teach you? Not a chance.”
The two of them looked stunned. Baylon immediately denied it. “What? No way. Freya, you’ve got it all wrong. Why would we try to hustle you?”

Her smile bloomed like cherry blossoms in spring–bright, dazzling, and warm. Her voice was light and clear, the kind that could make anyone feel relaxed and happy. But at that moment, both Baylon and Kendrick felt a chill crawl down their spines. In perfect unison, they both shouted, “Of course not!”
“What’s going on?” Louis’s voice suddenly cut in.
Both men froze.
Before Freya could even speak, they frantically waved their hands.
“Nothing, nothing at all!”
Kendrick added, “We were just playing cards with Freya. It was getting a little boring over there.”

Louis had noticed. Even though he’d been in the middle of a conversation, his attention had never strayed far from Freya and Aiden. They were his treasures–there was no way he wouldn’t keep an eye on them.
He’d seen Freya and Aiden start heading in his direction, only to get pulled away by the other two. Figuring that Kendrick and Baylon knew how to keep things lively and fun, he let it slide. But after a while, when he still hadn’t seen them again, he decided to check in–just in time to witness that very odd moment.
“They were just- Freya began, but Kendrick jumped in.
“Louis, you have no idea–Freya’s better at cards than you are. Baylon and I have been getting steamrolled. She’s been winning every single round!”
There was r no hiding the disbelief and heartbreak in his voice–not that Kendrick even tried. It was just too much. Too humiliating. Was she even human?
Freya shrugged. “And whose fault is that? I did ask you guys if you were sure. You said, ‘We’re best friends, it doesn’t matter who wins.“”
She said it so innocently, but the sly glint in her eyes was impossible to miss. Baylon groaned in dismay. Louis strolled over with a soft smile and gently patted Freya’s head.
“So how’d you beat them? They’re already suffering–just tell them.”
“If I told them, they’d feel even worse. This trick isn’t something just anyone can pull off.” Freya lifted her chin proudly, for once enjoying the upper hand.
Baylon and Kendrick perked up. They exchanged a look–so she really does have a trick!
“It’s fine, Freya, we won’t get upset. Just tell us,” Baylon said, holding up three fingers as if making a sacred vow. His curiosity was killing him.
“Yeah, yeah! We can handle it. We promise!” Kendrick chimed in, practically vibrating with anticipation.
“You sure about that?” Freya teased, grinning mysteriously.
She picked up her cards and held them up in front of their faces. With the cards visible, she gave her hand the slightest shake..
