Freya had no idea what Louis was planning. All she could think about was that he might be in a bad mood. Wanting to comfort and spoil him, she immediately agreed to something she didn’t even fully understand.
“Sure. You take care of it. I don’t know anything about this kind of thing anyway.”
Louis smiled and gave her another kiss. They stayed wrapped up like that, and with Louis leading the conversation, Freya didn’t even realize how off–topic they drifted until it was suddenly bedtime.
Louis, ever the man of action, proved just how fast he could get things done–three days later, they were already preparing to move.
“That fast?!” Freya panicked and rushed to pack her things.
“No need to stress. Just take your time,” Louis said calmly, strolling into her room to reassure her.
But of course she was flustered. Freya had thought the movers wouldn’t show up for another two hours. She quickly started rechecking and repacking everything.
“If there’s anything you don’t want, leave it. The new place already has plenty. And anything that’s missing, we’ll buy later,” Louis reminded her again.
“Okay, okay.” Freya nodded while continuing to pack. Whether or not she really heard what he said was anyone’s guess. She was still grateful Aiden had finished packing his things before he left–otherwise it would’ve been even more chaotic now.
Once everything was finally loaded into the trucks, Louis took her out for lunch.
“Shouldn’t we go supervise over there?” Freya asked, puzzled. “What if something goes wrong without anyone around?”
“Don’t worry. Darren and Marilyn are there,” Louis replied, naming two very familiar people.
Darren and Marilyn had helped care for Andres at the Graham family’s old estate. They’d also been close to Old Freya. Even though she’d never acted like much of a wife, Darren often drove her around, and Marilyn would find any excuse to make her soups, worried that her messy routine would ruin her health.

shouldn’t. No sneaky gossip, no passive–aggressive wzgrations–never once had they tried to influence the household. Whatever Old Freya did, they just quietly supported her, only occasionally offering a gentle nudge.
Freya had always liked them. She just hadn’t expected Louis to bring them to the new house.
After lunch, Louis drove her into the most famous villa district in the city. Because of its unique location, the housing prices there were sky–high. Freya had always wondered why villas would be built right in the city instead of out in the suburbs. Later, she learned it was due to special circumstances,
And it just went to show how hard it must’ve been for Louis to buy a place here.
The villa this time wasn’t quite the same one he’d shown her before–it had a bigger courtyard and an even better layout.
“The Gill family used to be old money. Unfortunately, the latest generation fell short. Andres Gill passed away not long ago, and his sons started fighting over the inheritance. This place landed with the youngest son. Problem is, he’s been in debt for a while, just hiding it from the old man. Once Andres passed, the kid couldn’t hold out any longer. I had Waylon leak a bit of news, and boom–he sold the house.”
As he drove her in, Louis explained, “This is the best villa in the area. It’s close to downtown, the surroundings are lively, and it’s more convenient overall. But if you don’t like it, we can move again.”
He said it as casually as if moving houses were no different from changing clothes. Even after months of knowing him, Freya still wasn’t used to how Louis thought. She blamed her past for being too broke to relate.
What she didn’t know was that Louis wasn’t actually wealthy enough yet to treat real estate like disposable socks. He was still in the early stages of building his empire, with many projects still in development and bleeding capital. He’d scraped together just enough to buy this house, not because he could afford to–but because he didn’t want her to feel like she was settling for less.
If she really didn’t like the place, Louis was prepared to sell it, add more cash, and get her a different one–even if that meant taking out a loan. Whatever it took to make her happy.
“It’s not like I can’t live here,” Freya said as she looked around. “Anything’s better than a shoebox or an ant’s nest. Gotta be grateful, right?”
