Chapter 309 A Shared Closet, A Bump, and a Story

Oh.Freya followed him inside, heading first for the bathroom

It was huge, with separate wet and dry zones, full of fancy fixtures that looked highend even at a glance. There was even a large bathtub that looked perfect for soaking and relaxing

Freya didn’t think too much of it and quickly moved along, but when she reached the wardrobe, she hesitated. There was already one in the other roomwhy was there another one in here

Curious, she pulled it openand froze. In a flash, she slammed the doors shut just as Louis was walking over

Half the wardrobe was filled with Louis’s clothes, but the other halfwas filled with their pajamas. His and hers. Together

The men’s sleepwear was standard enoughdark, simple, nothing unexpected. But the women’s side? Freya had always been picky about sleepwear. Since she liked staying home, she figured she might as well invest in comfort. Even though she hadn’t worn many of them yet, she’d bought a fair number of sets. Now all those delicate, varied styles were hanging sidebyside with Louis’scolorful, cute, silkymaking the contrast way too stark. The embarrassment hit her like a truck

Louis had been watching her the whole time. He’d caught a glimpse of the inside of the closet, saw the pairedup pajamas, and just as he was reacting, she’d slammed the doors. He immediately schooled his expression, turned his head, and pretended like he hadn’t seen a thing

Freya turned and saw he wasn’t looking, then patted her chest and exhaled hard. Her face burned red. Seriously, Marilyn? Couldn’t she have asked before putting everything together

Then she realized something even worse

With their pajamas stored in one closet, that meant whenever she wanted to shower or get ready for bed, she’d have to grab her sleepwear in advance. But what if Louis happened to be in the room when she needed to get it

Worsewhat if she forgot to bring it in with her

No, no, no. That wouldn’t happen. She’d make sure to remember. Just thinking about how awkward that situation would be made her want to smack herself

From now on, she had to wear only the most conservative sleepwear. Absolutely no exceptions. She silently vowed this to herself

She took a deep breath and turned to check out the rest of the room-

Whoa-!”

Louis had silently stepped up behind her, and she hadn’t noticed. Startled, she jumped and banged her head against the wardrobe door with a loud thunk

Ahhh-Freya clutched her head and felt tears well up. It hurta lot

What happened? Why are you so jumpy?Louis was startled too. He’d just meant to tease her, but now he hurried forward and pulled her into his arms, checking her head

It hurts-she sniffled, her voice soft and full of grievance, not even realizing how pouty she sounded

There’s no one else here. Why are you so jumpy?he sighed, pressing his palm gently to the back of her head and rubbing the spot softly. His tone was full of helplessness

You just popped up behind me!she said, her tone full of accusation. She was genuinely hurting

Okay, okay, my fault. His fingers moved even more gently

Then she felt something soft against her foreheadhe’d kissed it

“Still hurt?he murmured

It did still hurt, but for some reason, she suddenly couldn’t say it out loud. She just shook her head and buried her face in his chest, cheeks burning. Why was she acting so delicate all of a sudden

Maybe to prove she wasn’t really fragile, Freya looked up with exaggerated seriousness

I’m not the sensitive type. One time I crashed my ebike and scraped my arm real bad- there was blood everywhereand I didn’t cry at all. My roommate took me to get it cleaned, and the hydrogen peroxide stung like hell, but I still didn’t cry. I just winced a little.”

Louis’s face darkened slightly

You crashed your ebike? Someone hit you?”

Uhit was raining and the road was slippery. I wasn’t paying attention, and when I reached the intersection, a car suddenly swerved out. I panicked and grabbed the righthand brake too hard, and the whole bike skidded out from under me. But it was fine. Some people nearby helped me up and even picked up my bike.”

She even seemed a little proud of herself

After about a minute, I suddenly went black in the eyes. I freaked out and thought I’d gone blind! But then I figured it didn’t make sense. I hadn’t hit my head or injured my eyes, so I told myself I was probably just short on blood flow. I waited calmly for two minutes, and sure enough, my vision came back. Then I called my roommates to come get me.”
