“Busy? Busy with what–ruining our family’s business for some outsider?” Isaiah, who just moments ago had told his wife to watch her words, now exploded himself. “Give me my phone right now. Or I’ll use yours instead. That boy’s lost his damn mind over some girl and doesn’t even know who he is anymore!”
Seeing her husband’s expression darken, Ella finally realized something was seriously wrong. She handed him his phone quickly. “Fine, fine–make the call. But don’t work yourself up like this. It’s not good for your health. If Sebastian made a mistake, just talk to him. He’s still young–what’s the point of yelling? You’ll only make yourself sick. If he already knew everything, he wouldn’t need your guidance.”
Isaiah snorted. “If he keeps this up, I’ll be in the grave before I can retire.”
Ella kept quiet and watched him make the call.
Sebastian had just gotten off the phone with Savannah Scott. She told him she was impressed and saw him in a whole new light. He was riding that high when his grandfather’s call came in. Figuring it was just a casual check–in, he made a mental note to invite Savannah to dinner that evening and maybe stop by to see his grandfather the next day.
He answered with a light tone. “Hey, Grandpa, it’s me–Sebastian.”
Isaiah snapped right away. “Of course it’s you. I called you, didn’t I? Now tell me–was it you who approved that mess with Louis’s wife? Did you have people stir things up online and attack her?”
It took Sebastian a second to connect the dots, but then he remembered the trending topic. He brushed it off. “Oh, that? Yeah, I approved it. It’s no big deal randpa. Louis and his wife don’t even get along. She’s always been kind of an embarrassment, never doing anything worthwhile. And Dean asked me personally–I couldn’t really say no. It’s nothing serious. Why? Did someone run to you and make it a big deal?”
Sebastian already had a good guess about what was going on. He figured it was one of the other Wells relatives again, acting like they caught him messing up and rushing to complain to Grandpa. Normally, his grandpa wouldn’t care. He’d say stuff like “jealousy means you’re doing something right.” But this time felt different. Louis must’ve been the reason Grandpa was so worked up.
“Not a big deal? Seriously? You couldn’t say no to Dean? Since when does he call the shots for you? Because they’re having marriage issues? Give me a break.” Isaiah’s voice rose. “I’ve taught you better than this. Did all that just go in one ear and out the other? Who is Dean to

you, huh? Just some guy, and suddenly you owe him favors? You go after a man’s wife, you’re picking a fight with him. It doesn’t matter what their relationship looks like from the outside -she’s still his wife. Let me guess, Savannah got in your head again? She’s not even your fiancée. And here you are bending over backward for her? What’s going on–did you sleep with her or something?”
The sudden outburst caught Sebastian completely off guard. His mind went blank, and when he processed that last part, his face turned bright red. “Grandpa! What are you talking about?”
“I’m saying you’re a fool who can’t think straight!” Isaiah was ready to launch into another round of scolding when Ella handed him a cup of tea. He took it, gave her a glare, and softened his tone just a notch. “Did you even bother to look into what actually happened before helping stir up all that noise online? Are you sure Louis won’t come after you for this? You went after his wife–what did you think would happen? You let your feelings get in the way of your judgment. That’s not leadership. If this is how you handle things, you’re not ready to run the family. I’m not saying any more–just clean it up.” He paused, then added, “And just so you know–Louis already called me about it.”
Sebastian hadn’t been scolded like this in a long time. He was frustrated and snapped back. “I did check. Dean told me Louis’s wife stole someone else’s role. And if Louis actually cared, he would’ve called me directly instead of going through you. You always praise him like he’s perfect, but I don’t think he’s handling this any better.”
Isaiah had just started to calm down. But hearing that? His anger flared all over again.
