Chapter 359 Kendrick Thinks He’s Subtle but He’s Really Not
“Hey, Louis, are you even listening? Am I interrupting something with you and Freya? Kendrick asked.
When no response came, he set down his fork and waved his phone around, muttering to himself, “Signal seems fine…
Freya, who had been leaning in to say hi to Kendrick, instantly sat up straight. What does he mean, interrupting something between me and Louis? There’s nothing going on between us!
“I heard you. Nice work,” Louis finally said just as Kendrick was about to hang up. He turned the steering wheel, the corner of his mouth flat and unreadable.
On the other end, Kendrick pouted. Of course Louis didn’t really listen.
He took a sip of milk.
“Louis, are you not happy with it? Come on, just give me a straight answer. Don’t make us guess like this. I get it if you’re trying to mentor Waylon, but I didn’t do anything wrong lately, did‘ l? Don’t punish me too. I was up until like 2 AM last night, and Dean’s totally ruined now. Savannah’s shot at marrying into the Wells family is toast. What more do you want?”
“Nothing. I’m not unhappy.” Louis replied coolly.
Yeah, right. Kendrick could read between the lines. If Louis were really satisfied, he wouldn’t have given such a short, bland response. Kendrick knew his temper all too well.
Louis had always been hard to read–evén when they were kids. Almost as bad as Quinton. Kendrick could only interpret Louis‘ silence as disapproval of their methods–maybe he thought they hadn’t gone hard enough.
Determined to prove himself, Kendrick made a bold promise.
“Louis, don’t worry. We won’t give Dean a single chance to make a comeback. Worst case, we’ll give another entertainment/company a shot–let the Scott family burn. The higher–ups just don’t want a monopoly in the industry. As long as someone’s there to keep us in check, they don’t care who it is.”
What had sounded mysterious and serious only a moment ago came spilling casually from Kendrick’s mouth.
Freya suddenly realized. She’d just overheard something way beyond what a normal civilian should
know.

Kendrick babbled on for a bit more, feeling like he’d finally figured out Louis stance, then quickly hung up.
“What do you want to ask?” Louis pressed a button to end the call, eyes still on the road, but he could tell Freya had questions and didn’t want her to hesitate.
“If there really is competition between companies, won’t the higher–ups get annoyed with how flashy Kendrick is?” she asked.
“In Uzaka, as long as business doesn’t touch on monopoly or national interests, the officials are supportive. If Kendrick really has what it takes to crush the Scott family, then that just means the Scotts weren’t strong enough. Survival of the fittest. Besides, if the Scott family falls, there’s still the Winston family, the Joseph family, no one’s ever monopolized the entire market alone.”
Freya looked thoughtful. Louis had a moment to glance over and saw how adorable she looked with her head tilted in concentration. He couldn’t resist lifting a hand to gently ruffle her hair.
“Don’t overthink it. Kendrick doesn’t have what it takes on his own. If he teams up with Waylon, then maybe. Besides, this is a chance for him to get some real experience. Let him learn. Once he takes down the Scott family, he’ll be just about ready.”
Realization dawned on Freya.
“So this was really about giving Kendrick a learning opportunity? I knew it! Things were way too complicated for something so simple. It made me start doubting the way showbiz works.”
If people could destroy an entire entertainment company on a whim, then the industry would be way too brutal. Who could survive that kind of chaos?
Louis just smiled, saying nothing. He still looked every bit the noble, untouchable heir. The entertainment industry was indeed brutal–but it wasn’t the only brutal world out there. In the end, it was still business. Business was war.
Not everyone could build a monopoly like him
say.
Still leave the authorities with nothing to
And all this wasn’t something you could sum up in a sentence or two. It wasn’t just about the feud between the Womez family and the Scotts.
It touched on the future reshuffling of the cultural sector, the direction the Wells family would be taking, all far beyond Freya’s current understanding.
There was never a shortage of drama in the business world. And the best part of this show hadn’t even started yet.

If Dean had known that his petty grudge would end up inviting trouble far beyond what he could handle, he might’ve regretted giving in to his ego in the first place.
Right now, Dean wasn’t coaxing his wife–or yelling at anyone. He was the one getting yelled
- at.
Ethan, no longer young, had inherited the Scott family’s assets by marrying into his first wife’s family, She’d been sickly and their only child; when she died a few years later, the entire estate fell into Ethan’s lap.
Dean and Savannah were the children of Ethan’s second wife–not exactly treasured. After Ethan got rich, he certainly didn’t deny himself anything.
The family’s “main flag” still flew at home, but there were “colorful ones” waving outside too.
