Chapter 861
Chapter 361
“Louis, that eldest daughter from the Tate family insists on seeing you,”
The eldest daughter of the Tate family? It took Freya a full four seconds to dig up the memory of someone named Maria, and then remember her sister.
“Maria’s sister?”
“That’s right. It’s her,” Derek confirmed.
As a novelist, Freya was instantly hooked by the potential drama. “Is she here to confess her undying love for Louis because she just can’t let go?”
Derek was momentarily thrown off by Freya’s excited tone. “Uh. I don’t think it’s quite like that.
Louis couldn’t help but notice that instead of being upset, Freya looked downright thrilled. Her eyes sparkled with curiosity, which he found both amusing and-
“No,” he said flatly.
Freya looked immediately disappointed. “Why not? It’s just one meeting: what harm could it do?”
Sure, Louis being this popular was a bit annoying, but no one ever came after her to start a fight.
Freya thought that was weird.
She was certain Louis wouldn’t let anything happen to her anyway, so witnessing a messy confrontation could actually be pretty inspiring for her writing.
“You really want to see her?” Louis asked, half–smirking.
Derek shivered at the tone, while Freya protested softly, “I really do. I don’t even know what Maria’s sister looks like.”
“Fine. Let her in,” Louis relented, giving Derek the go–ahead.
Derek left, amused, and told security to let Sofia through. Sofia quickly arrived with her assistant and stepped into Louis‘ office–only to freeze when she spotted Freya.
“What is she doing here?”
Freya perked up, deliberately playing it up. “Guess I really am pretty. Everyone n

first the moment they walk in.”
Sofia choked on her words but decided to ignore her, instead turning to Louis with a pitiful expression.
“Louis, you know what’s going on with our family. Things are really falling apart this time. Please, just help me, for the sake of the times I helped you behind the scenes. And I still like you so much, how can you be so heartless?”
“Before we say another word, turn off the recorder in your bag,” Louis said coldly, dropping a bomb without flinching.
Freya frowned instinctively. “Recorder?”
Sofia’s face froze for a moment; then she tried to act composed. “Louis, what are you talking about? What recorder?”
Louis‘ patience was clearly wearing thin. He tapped the desk. “Whatever Dean offered you, your father should think twice before betting on whether Dean will actually come through. This is your first warning. If there’s a next time, the Tate family will collapse even faster.”
Sofia practically swallowed her embarrassment. She pulled the

recorder out of her bag and
“Louis, you know what kind of situation I’m in. I had no choice. If I didn’t agree to this, my dad was going to marry me off to Jonathan. You know he’s a complete waste of space. I really didn’t have a way out.”
Louis remained unmoved. Freya’s curiosity had faded too; something about this whole situation just left a strange taste in her mouth.
Sofia had come in with tears that were three parts fake, seven parts real. But now, with Louis showing zero reaction and Freya staying quiet too, the memory of her father’s smiling threats before she came here hit her harder than expected. Her bitterness began to feel very real.
“Louis, I’m telling the truth, I swear. Not one word is a lie. Please, just help me. For old times” sake.”
“You’re eighteen. That makes you a legal adult. If you don’t want to marry someone, is your dad really going to force you? And even if he tries, you can call the police. So what exactly are you coming to my husband for? He has no obligation to help you. And as far as I know, he never accepted any help from you in the past, so he doesn’t owe you anything.”
Freya couldn’t take it anymore. The moral guilt–tripping was unbearable–she sounded like she actually believed it.

“I hate it when people try to guilt–trip others. If you can’t take responsibility for your own life, who do you expect to take it for you? And why would anyone else be obligated to?”
BOSE
Sofia was clearly shaken by Freya’s words, but Freya wasn’t finished. She truly despised this kind of behavior.
“If your father has leverage over you, it’s only because he’s holding something you care about. If you choose to protect that, then letting go of something else is part of the deal. You can’t have it both ways–taking all the benefits without paying the price.”
It was like those people who gave up love for personal gain, only to later act like victims and blame the very ones who offered them that gain. There was no point in resenting others when the choice had always been their own.
