Claire hadn’t expected that getting connected to Dean would end up being such a headache.
“But don’t stress too much,” she said. “You’ve already mostly cleared your name. Even if some people still don’t believe you, it’s not enough to completely ruin your career. If Mr. Dean really proves unreliable, I’ll find another way to get you into a different show. As long as your acting holds up, there’s always a way to rise.”
Claire had run out of options. Even if she wanted to latch onto some big–shot investor, with Sophia’s current level of fame–sure, she was pretty–but that still wouldn’t be enough to get top–tier treatment from anyone powerful.
Just the thought of that brought Louis back into Sophia’s mind, and her chest tightened with frustration.
She had known from the start that Dean wasn’t a match for Louis.
Louis was the male lead. But no one could ever go up against the male lead and win.
He came with plot armor; his future was bound to be one success after another.
But she’d been in this book for so long now, and still, the storyline had gone completely off the rails. She was supposed to be the female lead, yet she hadn’t even managed to leave an , impression on Louis–let alone win his heart.
She’d tried following the original plot, but none of it worked. No matter what she did, she couldn’t get near Louis. Everything had been a waste of effort.
She’d always suspected that Freya had been transmigrated too. But the system insisted that wasn’t the case. At this point, it didn’t even matter anymore. Either way, she still couldn’t get close to Louis.
Still, she couldn’t understand it, and more than that, she couldn’t accept it. I’m the female lead,so why won’t the male lead come to me?
Sure, she had male side characters backing her up, but none of them had Louis‘ power, none were as talented, and certainly none were as good–looking.
The most frustrating part was that she didn’t even want to settle for those second leads. They weren’t nearly as devoted to her as the novel had described.
“There’s nothing else to do but wait and see if Mr. Dean can weather this storm,” Sophia said helplessly.
But deep down, she was already thinking. If we get to the end of the story and Louis still doesn’t

She couldn’t stomach that idea. She had worked so hard to get into this book, to live the life of a main character. Aren’t I supposed to have every man falling at my feet?
This was a romance novel written for women, not one of those harem novels for guys. She had even refrained from starting a harem of her own, and yet she couldn’t even get close to the male lead!
Claire saw how distracted Sophia looked. Figuring she was still upset–and knowing she bore much of the blame, she didn’t press her. Instead, she offered a few more words of comfort, said she’d work on getting Sophia more resources, and left.
As soon as Claire walked out, Sophia couldn’t help but question the system again. If Freya really isn’t the problem, then what about Louis? Is there something wrong with him? He’s not suffering. His wife hasn’t betrayed or left him. So, how am I supposed to get close to him? Am I, the female lead, really supposed to go without a male lead? Am I supposed to just hand my fated partner over to that soon–to–be–dead Freya?
“That question hasn’t come up before,” the system responded mechanically. “So I don’t have a definitive answer. But if you believe Louis is no longer a viable capture target, then you can shift your focus to a villain or a hidden character. If you manage to redeem a villain, you’ll still be a winner in life. And if you capture a hidden character, they won’t be any less valuable than the male lead.”
The robotic voice suddenly brought up something it had never mentioned before.
Sophia thought. Villains and hidden characters? I get what a villain is. But the one in this story? He’s cold, ruthless, and totally unhinged. Not like Louis at all in the first volume. That man would destroy me without blinking. Trying to redeem him? I’d rather just settle for a second leadn’t make me laugh. In the plot, I didn’t even manage to build a decent relationship with him. I’m not wasting energy on that. So what do you mean by hidden character? Who is it? What’s their purpose? If I manage to capture them, would it be like marrying Louis? Will he be loyal? Will he spoil me for the rest of my life? Will I have endless money and a clear path to stardom afterward?
“More or less,” the system replied. “If you succeed in capturing the hidden character, all of that is possible. But I should warn you, the hidden character won’t be easy to capture. They won’t be affected by your female lead aura like others are. So it’s all up to your own strength.”
Wearing a face mask, Sophia rolled her eyes dramatically. What aura? If that so–called female lead aura really worked, would Louis have ignored me this whole time? Maybe the side characters were mildly affected, but in the moments that counted, they were useless. So tell me who the hidden character is. I want the full profile, especially whether he has a wife, if he’s into anyone else, and what kind of woman he likes.
