Though Louis spoke with ease, Baylon was still annoyed. He muttered bitterly, “Sure, you got to drop a burden in disguise, but you still took a real hit. Once I take over the family business, I’ll help you go after that guy. Hmph. I refuse to believe he can predict every move.”
“What are you butting in for?” Waylon gave him a light slap. “You’re about to take over Quez Corp–you’ll need time just to learn the ropes. By the time you’re done figuring things out, Louis will already be back on his feet. Just focus on your own stuff. Louis has a better head for this than you do. Worst case, he’s still got us.”
“After working nonstop for years, we finally get a breather. What’s the rush?” Louis poured tea for both of them, perfectly at
ease.
Baylon looked at him in disbelief. “Louis, how are you not worried at all?”
“When has Louis ever panicked?” Waylon took in the aroma of his tea, clearly savoring it.
“Now that you mention it… true. I’ve never seen him panic. Fine. Louis, if you ever need anything, just call me.” Baylon patted his chest with conviction. “I’ll be there in a heartbeat.”
The three chatted for a little while longer before heading out together. When Freya came home that afternoon, the place was empty. She let out a sigh of relief. Louis’s brothers–each one had a more intense presence than the last–and all of them had made it crystal clear they didn’t like her. It was exhausting to be around. Not that she was afraid, but it still made her uncomfortable.
She’d said she had something to do, but the truth was she didn’t. She’d just needed an excuse to get out. With nowhere specific to go, she ended up at an internet café to write. A handsome guy playing games next to her kept sneaking glances and lost several matches in a row. Eventually, when he couldn’t help trying to start a conversation, Freya simply changed computers.
But after she switched, the girl next to her came over instead, asking how her skin was so good, trying to chat, asking why she was writing there–it felt like the girl was looking for some kind of life inspiration. Freya could only sigh. Being attractive meant drawing attention no matter where she went. It wasn’t something she could avoid.
Back home at last, she could finally relax. She changed clothes, stretched with a big yawn, then bounced over to the couch. After a moment, she thought about taking a shower. She checked her phone and confirmed that Louis had messaged to say he’d be back very late tonight–so she headed straight to the bathroom without hesitation.
After a long, luxurious hot shower, she towel–dried her hair and started blow–drying it. Normally, she’d wear a thick robe and go to the bedroom to dry it–just to avoid any awkwardness. But since no one else was home today, she simply stayed in the living room. It was way more convenient anyway.
Once her hair was almost dry, she didn’t bother tying it up. She brewed some lemon tea, grabbed some snacks she’d bought earlier, and happily settled into the couch. She hesitated for a moment, then decided not to write. She opened her notes app, picked a movie she’d been meaning to watch, and started playing it with a smile.
While watching, she alternated between popping snacks into her mouth, sipping lemon tea, and running her fingers through her hair. She didn’t like brushing right after blow–drying–felt like it damaged her hair–so she usually ran her hands through it first and waited until it was completely dry before combing it out.
There was nothing more blissful in this world than being completely free–fresh out of a hot shower, hair blow–dried, lounging on the couch with snacks and a show. Since coming to this world, this was the first time Freya had felt so completely at peace.
