There weren’t as many people lining up for bumper cars as there were for the roller coaster, so Louis told Aiden to queue up. The moment the little guy joined the line, he immediately drew a crowd of starry–eyed onlookers.
Nearby, a little girl had been wailing non–stop. Her father had been trying to calm her down with no success. But the second she laid eyes on Aiden, she instantly quieted down. She wriggled out of her father’s arms and darted over to Aiden.
Under the eyes of all the nearby spectators, the little girl–completely unbothered by shyness–grabbed Aiden’s hand and blinked at him with big sparkling eyes. “Hey, let’s play together, okay?”
She looked to be about five, barely reaching Aiden’s shoulder. Aiden gently patted her on the head.
“Be good now, no more crying, alright? We’re all here to ride bumper cars, right? So of course we can play together later— there’s plenty of cars in the arena.”
“Okay, we’ll play together,” the little girl said sweetly, then turned to her parents. “Daddy, Mommy, I want to play with him. I like him.”
“Alright, I will go wait in line for you guys.” Her father moved to the back of the queue, finally letting out a relieved breath.
Freya watched the little girl chatter on and on next to Aiden while holding his hand. Aiden responded with a warm smile, occasionally nodding or replying just enough to keep the conversation going. The two kids looked like they were having the time of their lives. She couldn’t help but sigh in admiration.
“Already knows how to charm girls at such a young age–and with that face, too.”
To her surprise, Louis added from beside her, “The girl’s pretty cute.”
“That’s not the point. It’s because Aiden is polite. Didn’t you hear the stuff she’s talking about? Completely boring. Like how her doll has huge eyes, or how her parents just took her to a movie. Her stories don’t even make sense. But look at Aiden, patiently listening and humoring her like it’s the most interesting thing in the world. He’s basically babysitting. Most boys wouldn’t care about this kind of thing.”
Louis nodded slightly, indifferent. “That’s right. He’s charming girls.” And grown women too, he added silently.
In less than two minutes, another kid–a slightly chubby little boy–tried to join their conversation. He approached Aiden and the girl to chat, but the girl immediately turned away in disgust and ignored him, choosing to talk only to Aiden. Aiden simply nodded at the boy in acknowledgment and continued entertaining the little girl, not even attempting to include the
newcomer.
The boy quickly picked up on the vibe and returned to where his parents stood, visibly dejected. Freya’s mouth twitched at the sight. Well, so much for just being polite–it really was charm at work.
When it was finally their turn, the little girl was sent back to her parents, cheerfully waving goodbye. Aiden didn’t seem the least bit sentimental about leaving her behind. He promptly dragged Freya and Louis along to check in and hop into the cars, showing no intention of waiting for the girl to join them.
The real fun in bumper cars came from crashing into each other. Freya’s driving skills were average at best, but here she didn’t have to worry–crashing was part of the game. Aiden took every opportunity to bump into her, grinning from ear to ear. Other riders, clearly drawn by Freya’s looks, also kept aiming for her and even tried chatting her up between hits.
Louis, on the other hand, drove like he was at a training course. He skillfully avoided every collision attempt with exacting precision, not letting a single person bump into him. Freya couldn’t help but stare in admiration.
“Seriously even bumper cars turn into a driving showcase with this guy.”
