Chapter 5
His neck was now covered in gruesome red welts.
It looked like a ghost had clutched his throat.
Miranda froze, her voice trembling.
“I cried so hard… Why? Why is this happening to Jason?!”
My parents, too, were stunned, horror settling on their faces.
If the curse was real, Miranda wouldn’t be the only one doomed–our whole family would be affected.
The next second–R
Miranda’s terrified eyes snapped to me.
Her expression twisted into accusation.
“It’s you! You poisoned Jason!” she shouted.
“He was fine–until he came near you!”
Jason, hearing this, visibly calmed. His panic hardened into rage.
Evelyn, hand over the antidote right now, and I might spare you.“E
My mother grabbed my arm, digging her nails in frantically.
“Where is it? Give it to him! Do you want us all dead?!”
I stood up, pain shooting through my arm. I yanked free from her grasp.!!
Then I turned and looked at Jason’s suffering face–and smiled.
Jason,” I said slowly, “I didn’t poison you.”
“You’re experiencing the death curse. Don’t you understand?”
I dropped my voice to a chilling whisper.!
“Or are you pretending not to see the ghost crawling up your back?”
A sudden gust of cold wind swept through the hall. The temperature plunged.
Jason’s expression changed at once. His neck stiffened. He didn’t dare move.
Miranda shivered but forced a mocking laugh.
“You’re still trying to scare us? Death curses? Ghosts? You really expect us to believe that?”
“This is the modern age! Who do you think you’re fooling?“”
Jason glared at me–but then, his gaze shifted to my hand.
He noticed the ring on my finger. His lips curled into a mocking smile..
“I get it now. You poisoned me and plan to kill yourself too.”
“You want to be buried with me, don’t you? Spend eternity together.“W What?!
His twisted reasoning stunned me.
I was about to speak, but Xavier’s parents rushed in, alarmed by the commotion. When they saw the bloody streaks on his neck, their faces drained of color.
Xavier’s mother clutched her chest, panicked.
“What happened? Why did the death curse work?!”
She spun toward Miranda, eyes wide with disbelief.
“Didn’t you say you were born with a spiritual body?!* Miranda rushed forward, tears falling, voice frantic.
“Brother was fine before! It was her! Sister poisoned him!“”
