Chapter 122
“Honestly, that’s kind of on me “Adrian sighed. “Trook the joke a link too fat when I housed Thes. Fade him buy a hay and pr assumed it was tot someone he was into. Thit really, there’s nothing wrong with Biving a hay for free friend
Adrian glanced at Theo as he said it.
Thee got the message loud and clear. Adrian was giving him an out trying to help him draw a line heissen himself and Amathea in front of Gregory and avoid any necessary drama.
Even though they both knew the truth that Anathea had already taken Thea’s check and was seriously thinking about ending marriage, neither of them had brought it up with Gregory.
After all, they figured Gregory didn’t really care that much.
If the marriage ended, that was that. There was no need to make things more awkward than they had to
“Yeah.” Theo exhaled and nodded. “I just felt bad about ruining her bag, that’s all. There’s no hidden agenda You know how much I hate giving people any excuse to start rumors, especially people from the Jacobson family.”
As he said that, he was also trying to convince himself that all he felt was pity, nothing more. There was no way feelings for Anathea.
he actually had
Anathea was Adam’s daughter, for goodness‘ sake. Theo couldn’t stand that man. If anything, he wanted Anathea to suffer for what her father had done. So how could he possibly like her?
There was just no way.
With that bit of self–reassurance, the look in Theo’s eyes grew more resolute.
Gregory didn’t say anything. He just looked at Theo with a complicated expression, lips pressed into a thin line.
“Alright, now that everything’s out in the open, it’s no big deal.” Adrian took the chance to wrap things up. “Let’s head home and get some rest. Don’t forget what day it is tomorrow.”
At that, Gregory paused, and Theo’s gaze dropped.
Tomorrow…
“Tomorrow’s your surgery, right? Are you nervous?” Hannah asked through the video call with a cheerful smile.
“Not at all,” Fiona replied with a relaxed tone. “It’s just that Nat insisted on staying with me.”
She turned the camera toward Anathea, who was making the bed. “Even though it’s a VIP room, the bed’s still tiny. It’s nothing like the one at home.”
Anathea didn’t even look up. “It doesn’t matter where we sleep. As long as I’m with you, I’m happy, Mom.”
Hannah laughed. “Aww, look at that! Nat really knows how to talk sweet. If I didn’t have two big shoots this week, I’d be right there with you both.”
“I wouldn’t let you two cram into this tiny bed with me.” Fiona chuckled.
“Oh, alright. Then, after you get discharged, come visit Syntherra ‘ll arrange a top–floor suite for you to stay in. How about that?” Hannah offered.
“Hannah, stop making empty promises,” Anathea teased.
“I’m not! I mean it!” Hannah shot back. “Don’t you dare make me look bad in front of Mrs. Jacobson!”
Fiona watched the two of them bicker and couldn’t help but feel like the cold, sterile ward had warmed up just a little.

After the call ended, Anathea sat down beside Fiona and leaned her shoulder against the latter’s. “Don’t worry, Mom The surgery’s going to go well.”
Her words weren’t meant for just Fiona, but for herself as well. It was the only way she could get through the next eight hours of waiting without falling apart.
Anathea glanced out the window. The night sky was clear, and for split second, it looked like a shooting star streaked across it. She closed her eyes and silently made a wish.
She believed that somehow, somewhere, someone would hear it.
Everything was ready. Fiona had already taken her last pre–surgery injection to boost her immune system the night before. Anathea walked her to the operating room and watched her go in.
Now, she just needed to wait.
But she’d barely sat down when the doors swung open again. A doctor rushed over to her, looking tense.
“Ms. Jacobson, I’m afraid we have a problem. About five minutes ago, someone took the last dose of the medication we need for the surgery.”
