Chapter 128
Gregory, in particular, had changed drastically. He was no longer the polite, easygoing guy he used to be. Now, he was the decisive and sharp–edged CEO of Sinclair Group.
So much had changed. Nothing was the same anymore.
“I’m sorry. We should’ve made sure Adam was buried right along with you,” Theo muttered bitterly, his hand brushing over the photo on the gravestone.
“Adam doesn’t deserve that. If he’s going anywhere, it’s straight to hell. There’s no way he’d ever be allowed to meet them,” uttered Gregory coldly.
“But I can’t accept that!” Theo snapped, eyes bloodshot as he turned to Gregory. “He should’ve paid for what he did with his life!

He still hadn’t gotten over Gregory letting Adam off the hook–not even in the slightest.
And deep down, Theo didn’t believe that someone as cold and unflinching as Gregory would’ve let Adam go just because Anathea had asked him to.
Besides, rumor had it Gregory had met with Adam right before the latter had been sentenced. No one knew what they’d talked about.
“Greg, are you hiding something from us?” Theo questioned, staring Gregory down.
Gregory didn’t respond. His expression darkened for a split second and his hand curled into a tight fist.
“Alright, that’s enough,” Adrian interrupted, trying to ease the tension. “We don’t get many chances to come here together. Let’s not bring up stuff that’s been buried for years.”
Adrian glanced at Theo. “And you, come on. You know Greg’s pain runs just as deep as yours. Why dig into it?”
“I…” Theo opened his mouth but couldn’t argue. He knew Adrian was right. Clenching his jaw, he finally muttered, “Fine. I got carried away. I’m sorry.”
Gregory patted him on the shoulder and handed him a glass of white wine. The three stood in front of the tombstones and poured the drinks onto the ground as one final toast for their fallen friends.
The rain in Syntherra was picking up, washing everything clean.
Not far from the cemetery, a car pulled over and parked. A tall, well–dressed man stepped out, holding an umbrella. He looked polished, almost scholarly. He had a bouquet in his arms as he made his way inside.
“Dominic?” Theo blinked in surprise.
Gregory didn’t react, as he’d expected this. Every year, aside from the flowers the three of them brought, there was always one more bouquet left at the graves. It had always been Dominic’s. Their timing had just never matched up… until now.
“It’s just a small gesture–a little something to honor their memory,” Dominic said gently.
Gregory nodded in thanks.
Adrian turned to Dominic. “Since we’ve finally run into each other why don’t you join us for a drink?”
Dominic smiled. “Sure.”
After they left the cemetery, another figure slowly appeared. Unlike the rest, who all carried black umbrellas, this man held a bright red one, which was impossible to miss in the rain.
The entire city of Syntherra was drenched in mist and rain. Over in Castenea, the skies were just as heavy.

When Anathea woke up, a nurse was adjusting the drip on her IV.
“Ms. Jacobson, you’re awake!” The nurse quickly turned to call for the doctor.
“My mom… Where’s my mom?” Anathea asked urgently.
“Don’t worry. Mrs. Jacobson already received the injection and was taken in for surgery. She should be out in about three hours.”
So Anathea had been out for five hours? Had it been that long?
Anathea frowned and forced herself upright. She wanted to be there for Fiona. But the doctor stepped in, blocking her path with a serious look.
“Ms. Jacobson, I understand you’re worried about your mother, but there’s something important I have to tell you.”
Anathea froze, a flicker of disbelief flashing through her eyes. Her hand that was resting on her leg suddenly clenched tight.
Before she could even respond, two officers walked in and stopped right in front of her.
“Ms. Jacobson, someone reported the incident. Please come with us for questioning regarding charges of coercion and assault.”
