Chapter 130
Raindrops on the window started out as faint streaks, then merged into steady streams, finally forming a full–on curtain of
water.
Gregory stared out at the rain, which was only getting heavier. His brows drew together slightly. For some reason, a strange feeling crept into his chest. He felt as though something was missing.
“Greg? What are you zoning out about?” Adrian rolled up next to him in his wheelchair, curious.
Gregory snapped back to the moment. “It’s nothing.”
“Well then, come have a drink already!” Theo waved him over, topping off Dominic’s glass while he was at it. “It’s Romanee- Conti. You fine with that?”
“Yeah.” Dominic nodded, then glanced toward Gregory.
“By the way, I heard you’re planning to develop a new project in Syntherra. Any chance you’d be interested in partnering with Lancaster Group?”
Gregory’s eyes flickered knowingly.
So, it wasn’t a coincidence that they’d met up at the cemetery. Dominic had planned it all out, showing up just in time to cross paths with them. And now, the reason was crystal clear.
Still, Gregory respected Dominic’s direct approach. There was no small talk and no games. He went straight to the point. That kind of honesty beat all the fake pleasantries any day.
Gregory raised his glass. “Since you’re being upfront about it, I’ll give it some serious thought.”
“Then, here’s to a future partnership.” Dominic clinked glasses with him and downed the wine in one go.
“Some skills you’ve got there, Mr. Lancaster!” Theo grinned. It wasn’t often he found someone who could keep up with him, so he kept pouring more for both of them.
After chatting for maybe 20 minutes, Dominic checked his watch and stood up. “I’ve got another appointment, so I’ll head out first.”
“Already? You’re not staying for another round?” Theo looked surprised.
“No, it’s raining. I need to go pick up someone. They’ll be stranded if I’m late.” Dominic smiled.
“Fair enough. Let’s do this again next time.” Theo got up to walk him out, clearly disappointed to lose a good drinking buddy.
Gregory just nodded slightly, idly turning the wine glass in his hand. His expression was unreadable.
“I bet he’s off to pick up someone special,” Adrian said, watching Dominic walk away.
“He sounded pretty affectionate. I wonder who she is. Must be from some powerful family too. His grandfather cares a lot about status, so whoever it is, she’s probably from a background just as impressive. If they get together, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Lancasters end up dominating Syntherra.”
Gregory stayed silent, so Adrian waved a hand in front of his face. Greg? What do you think? Want to guess which family she’s from?”
“No idea, and not interested,” Gregory replied flatly.
“Of course. You’re only interested in that new Syntherra project.” Adrian gave a helpless smile and refilled Gregory’s glass.
“But seriously, Greg, you don’t have to bury yourself in work all the time. There are other things in life worth your attention. Don’t be so hard on yourself.”
Gregory said nothing. He downed the wine in one gulp. But no matter what he did, he couldn’t shake the strange sense of unease

creeping up on him today.
Frowning, he pulled out his phone, which had been turned off.
Every year on this day, he would turn off his phone, leave everything behind, and go to Syntherra with a heavy heart to honor his fallen friends. He wouldn’t turn it back on until he returned to Castenea.
But this time, something made him turn it on early.
A flood of missed calls took over his screen–20 from Natalie and five from Eleanor. They buried all the other numbers beneath them.
But still, his eyes landed on one–the call from Anathea.
For just a second, something flickered in Gregory’s eyes.
