Maybe it was the pregnancy hormones, but her emotions kept fluctuating, and a dull pressure lingered in her chest.
Once they arrived at the company, Gregory got out first. Martin, per Gregory’s instructions, took Anathea to the jewelry store to choose a ring.
Anathea stood in front of the dazzling display for a long time, unable to make a decision.
“Miss, is there anything you like?” the staff asked.
Anathea smiled and shook her head.
“We have other styles too. You can take a look. Actually, we just received a very special ring.”
The staff led Anathea to another display case, and the ring was truly more beautiful than the others.
It was a finely cut white diamond, surrounded by a halo of tiny, sparkling diamonds, which reflected brilliant light under the display lighting.
Anathea’s gaze was drawn to it, but before she could speak, a woman said, “I’ll take this one.”
Anathea paused and turned her head, just in time to see the woman’s face.
It was Natalie.
“Ms. Jacobson, what a coincidence.” Natalie greeted Anathea first. Her smile was polite, but her eyes were sharp as she examined Anathea.
Natalie hadn’t expected Anathea to be back, accompanied by Martin, no less. It was clear Gregory had started taking Anathea seriously.
Natalie clenched her fingers subtly.
Anathea met her gaze without any change in expression, not even bothering to respond

“I didn’t expect your taste to be so similar to mine, Ms. Jacobson. But sorry, I’m taking this ring.
As soon as she said it, the staff took the ring out for Natalie to try on
Natalie was a premium member at the shop, so the staff instantly became even more attentive. “Of course, Ms. Whitman.”
The white diamond ring slipped onto Natalie’s ring finger.

With a smile, Natalie flipped her hand over to show off the ring to Anathea. “It’s my birthday tomorrow, so Greg gave me a 20- million spending limit on his card to buy whatever I want.”
She held the black card between two fingers and handed it to the staff.
The card had Gregory’s name embossed in gold lettering–it was plain as day.
Anathea’s expression didn’t change much, but a faint trace of self–mockery flashed in her eyes.
She’d seen that card before. It really was Gregory’s.
In their six years of marriage, she’d never once touched that black card. Yet, Gregory had given it straight to Natalie, along with a 20–million limit.
