“Don’t even get me started. It’s all that bastard Dominic’s fault!” Hannah grumbled in frustration.
“He’s about to get married, and I wanted to cut things off on a good note, but he wouldn’t let go! He even ruined my new project! What a jerk!”
Anathea froze for a moment.
Dominic. He was the man who’d come to the hospital with Hannah before.
Back then, the way he’d stood up for Hannah had made Anathea think he actually had feelings for Hannah.
But he was getting married soon?
Then again, it wasn’t that surprising. The Lancasters held as much power in Syntherra as the Sinclairs did in Castenea. Both families were at the very top of the pyramid. Using well–matched marriages to consolidate power was standard practice.
Still, all Anathea cared about was how Hannah felt.
Was Hannah upset?
Hannah seemed to sense Anathea’s concern as she let out a light, dismissive laugh.
“Don’t worry about me, Thea. I’m Hannah Cole. I’m at the top of the game in the showbiz industry. I’ve got the visuals and the body–men line up for me.
“But to me, they’re just items–my nightstand is full of them. When I get bored of one, I toss it. I don’t let it take up space.”
Her tone was carefree and bold, and Anathea couldn’t help but feel a little envious. How she wished she could have that kind of personality.
Anathea had always been meticulous and reserved. That was why, from the moment she first saw Hannah, she’d been drawn to the latter’s sunshine–like energy.
She wanted to be someone like Hannah, who could pick things up and let them go just as easily.
But ever since that one mistake six years ago, it had all gone downhill for her.
She cared too much about too many things, and that gave her too many weaknesses. Gregory had a tight grip on all of them, which left her completely shackled, unable to escape.
Anathea lowered her gaze, the light in her eyes dimming.
After chatting for a while longer, Hannah hung up, saying she had something to do.
Anathea locked the screen and lay down in bed. Just as she was about to turn off the lights and go to sleep, the door opened.
Gregory walked in, wearing gold–rimmed glasses. It seemed he’d just finished working.
Anathea glanced at him briefly before looking away. Since they got back home, he hadn’t said a word to her. Even at dinner, he’d been silent, and afterward, he’d gone straight to the study and shut the door.
Anathea had been sensible enough not to bother him. She’d thought he wouldn’t come to the master bedroom tht, and she’d been glad about it.
But he’d come in anyway.
Anathea’s brows creased ever so slightly.
Noticing her expression, Gregory snorted coldly. “The whole villas mine. You have a problem with me sleeping in the master bedroom?”

“Of course not.” Anathea smiled faintly. “Forget the master bedron, you could even sleep on the roof.” Gregory shot her a sharp look. How had he never realized that she had such a poisonous mouth?
He grabbed his sleepwear and walked straight into the bathroom to shower.
Anathea grew drowsy quickly. She had no plans to wait up for him So, she lay down and slowly drifted off to sleep. Before long, she heard the rustling of clothes behind her, followed by a strong arm pulling her into an embrace.
Her back was pressed against his warm chest, and her nose was filled with the scent of his body wash.

Anathea frowned and shifted away. But each time she moved, he pulled her back. At last, she lost patience and pinched his arm.
He just held her tighter in response.
“Behave,” he muttered hoarsely, resting his chin on the curve of her neck. “Or I’ll make you work overtime.”
Anathea froze.
She’d had no idea Gregory could be this shameless, but she was too tired to deal with him. She gave up resisting and turned her back to him, closing her eyes.
Gregory watched the peaceful rise and fall of Anathea’s chest as she lay in his arms, her breathing soft and steady. His icy demeanor slowly melted away.
Anathea was much cuter asleep than awake.
