To outsiders, Gregory and Anathea looked like a loving couple whispering sweet nothings to each other.
The gesture successfully caught Wesley’s attention as he approached them with his wife.
“I didn’t think you two would be so affectionate!” he exclaimed in Englorian.
Plastering a smile, Gregory replied in Englorian as well, “Compared to the bond you and your wife have built over the past ten- plus years, we’ve still got a long way to go.”
Wesley and his wife exchanged a smile, their eyes full of tenderness.
“Well, here’s a toast to you both,” Wesley said, raising a glass of champagne,
A server brought a glass to Anathea, but before she could reach for, Gregory smoothly took her glass instead.
“My wife’s not feeling well. She shouldn’t be drinking. I’ll drink on her behalf,” he uttered apologetically.
With that, he downed both glasses in one go.
The gesture instantly won Wesley’s approval. “You’re such a good husband! This way, please. Let’s discuss our partnership.”
Gregory nodded slightly, then turned to Anathea and spoke to her gently. “I’m going to discuss business with him. Stay with Mrs. Price. If anything comes up, call me.”
“Okay.” Anathea nodded. Seeing Wesley’s wife straighten Wesley’s clothes thoughtfully, she did the same to Gregory’s. Gregory was immensely pleased with her initiative. It fit perfectly with the image of the wife he envisioned –gentle, considerate, and entirely focused on him.
For a moment, the gloom he’d been carrying lifted like clouds parting after a storm. He leaned down and kissed Anathea’s forehead. “Later, then.”
Meanwhile, Wesley kissed his wife’s lips. They were both evidently full of love.
Anathea watched Gregory walk away, the smile on her face fading just a little. Still, she had to continue acting in front of Wesley’s wife.
Anathea approached her with a smile and greeted her in Englorian, “Mrs. Price-”
“Don’t call me that. I don’t like it.”
Surprisingly, Wesley’s wife was strongly averse to the title. She wasn’t even speaking Englorian; she was speaking Frevancian.
“I have a name. It’s Olivia Sharp.”
Anathea paused for a second.
Olivia noticed Anathea’s expression and assumed the latter didn’t understand. A hint of disappointment glinted in her eyes. “Of course…”
In this place, almost no one understood what she was saying.
She took a glass of wine from a passing waiter and drank a sip in frustration. Then, she glanced at Wesley before rolling her eyes. “How much longer is this boring event going to drag on? I’m so done with it.”
Anathea arched a brow. With a smile, she replied softly, “Nice to meet you, Ms. Sharp.”
Olivia froze, staring at Anathea in surprise. “Y–you…”
“She can speak Frevancian!” Olivia thought.
As Olivia gawked, Anathea introduced herself. “I’m Anathea Jacobson. I don’t like being called ‘Mrs. Sinclair‘ either.”
