When Wesley said those words, he’d spoken with full confidence. And it turned out to be true.
Gregory had witnessed Olivia quickly staking her claim when she saw Wesley close to another woman. So, he tried using Wesley’s method on Anathea.
He wanted to see her react like Olivia did. He wanted her to get upset when he favored Natalie and not remain as cold and indifferent as she was being now, like she didn’t care at all.
But Gregory had overestimated Anathea’s feelings toward him.
Anathea showed no response to their public display of affection. She remained impassive, so much so that when Gregory and Natalie stood up to dance, she gracefully stepped aside to give them space.
Gregory frowned.
“Greg, let’s go,” Natalie said with a smile as she looped her arm through his.
Gregory stared at Anathea. When he noticed her unaffected demeanor, his gaze turned cold. He wanted to see how long Anathea could keep up this indifference.
“Let’s go.” Gregory rested his hand on Natalie’s.
Natalie’s smile deepened as she took his hand. Before leaving, she shot a glance at Anathea and curled her lips in a smug,
victorious smirk.
Anathea lowered her gaze as they brushed past her.
The lights hit Gregory and Natalie just in time, making them the shining stars of the event.
Meanwhile, behind them, Anathea stood in the shadow of their glow, swallowed by the darkness. Her presence was barely
visible.
Many people couldn’t help but feel surprised as they watched the scene unfold. Their gazes toward Anathea shifted from respect to sympathy, and for some, even a hint of schadenfreude.
But Anathea didn’t care. She’d completed her task for the night.
She’d done her duty as Mrs. Sinclair, delivering the gift to Natalie at Gregory’s request.
Even if she felt nothing but hatred toward Natalie, she pushed that aside because she wasn’t Anathea Jacobson now. She was Mrs. Sinclair. And Mrs. Sinclair always held herself with grace and dignity.
So, she stood tall and walked slowly toward the lounge area.
The group of socialites chatting animatedly in the lounge saw Anathea approach and immediately showed their disdain. They stood up to leave while talking in hushed tones.
“I wonder where she gets the confidence to try and steal Natalie’s spotlight at her own birthday party.”
“Yeah, she should know her place.”
“She must be embarrassed now. Quick, take a look at her face. It must be really interesting.”
But Anathea merely glanced at them and offered a perfect smile. It was just so gentle that they froze, feeling as if all their mockery had been dissipated into thin air.
“Boring,” they muttered as they left the area.
Soon, the lounge was left with Anathea sitting alone.
