Isabel hated herself for being so impulsive earlier. Natalie was the mewnecker, but by picking a fight with her, Isabel had made her look like the innocent dansel–in–distress destined to marry Gregory. The Incident had also put Anathea in a precarious position with Gregory.
But Isabel was sure of one thing–Natalie was the man–stealing whore who’d come between her and her ex–boyfriend. She couldn’t believe Natalie would deny having done something like that and still dare to seduce Gregory!
She should’ve known better than to see Gregory as her role model ince she was young Men were all the same after all!
“Is Gregory blind or something?” Isabel seethed. “How could be leave an angel like you for a trollop like Natalie? Just thinking about it pisses ine oft! Ow, ow–Anathea, that hurts! Gentle dabbling, please!”
Anathea dabbed an iodine–soaled cotton bud on the cut on Isabel cheek. When she saw the latter wincing and gritting her teeth in pain, she chuckled.
“You need to learn your lesson, and pain is the best teacher. You won’t get away with just a small cut on the face the next time you decide to pick a fight out of impulse.”
Isabel pouted. She knew she was in the wrong this time. Nodding, she said, “I won’t do such a thing again. I’m sorry for dragging you into the mess, Anathea.”
“Don’t worry about it, Anathea replied softly. She was considerably more gentle when she dabbed Isabel’s cut again.
Gregory had never liked Anathea, to begin with, and this incident only made him think even less of her.
Although it made no difference to her, she couldn’t stop thinking about his words when he’d brushed past her earlier with Natalie in his arms-“I’ll settle the score with you when I get home.
How did he plan to settle the score with her? Anathea frowned. She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t a little shaken. She’d seen the brutal ways he settled scores, and if he truly were to make good on his threat, she might not make it out alive.
Her heart tightened to the point that breathing became difficult
Alas, Gregory didn’t show up again or seek Anathea out even after the party had ended and night fell. Only then did she stop fretting. She figured he must be so busy looking after Natalie that he’d forgotten about her.
Not that she wasn’t grateful for it. She heaved a sigh of relief.
She’d wanted to bid goodnight to Brisa, but the latter wa
was so reluctant to part with her that she insisted Anathea stay the night at
the Sinclair residence.
Anathea took one look at Brisa’s pleading eyes and knew she couldn’t let her down. She wouldn’t drop by as often in the future, and she’d be remiss not to spend time with Brisa before she left for good.
“I’ll have the maids straighten up the room you share with Gregory! Brisa announced, grinning when Anathe agreed to stay the night. She immediately had the maids get to work.
Xander still had school the next day, so Martin came to the residence to personally escort him back.
Before Xander left, Anathea heard him speaking on the phone with Natalie. He sounded concerned as he asked, “Ms. Whitman. are you all right? Are your wounds still hurting? I can give your boo boos a kiss if you like…
Anathea handed Xander’s stuff to Martin before limping and turning away. At that moment, Xander walked up to her and accidentally bumped into her,
“Mrs. Sinclair! Are you all right?” Martin asked frantically, reaching out to catch Anathea in case she lost her footing
Xander stared at his electronic watch and the blank screen. The call had ended abruptly because he’d bumped into Anathea
He lifted his gaze to her and frowned. “Mom, watch where you walk next time, okay?”

Anathea didn’t reply, not that Xander would have stayed to hear her out. He brushed past
Just then, he got a text from Natalie. “Tin fine. Thank you for checking up on me, Xander.” Xander’s knitted brows eased when he read the text. He looked Instantly chipper as he leaned against the edge of the car window and waved goodbye to Anathea. “Bye, Mom!”
Anathea remained expressionless as she waved back at him. She could guess why he’d suddenly cheered up. In any case, she had nothing to do with it..
But did that mean Natalie was fine now? If that were the case, would Gregory leave Anathea alone?
