“I’m so sad. You forgot about me now that you have another mother figure,” said Hannah, fake crying.
“That’s because you promised to take me to an amusement park in Syntherra but changed your mind at the last minute, Mommy.”
Chloe puffed up her cheeks, clearly still holding a grudge about Hannah breaking the promise.
A flicker of guilt passed through Hannah’s eyes. “Hey, Mommy was just too busy, okay? I’ll take you there next time. Deal?”
Busy?
Anathea looked at Hannah. “You landed a new gig?”
Hannah glanced at Chloe, who was still focused on eating, and leaned in to whisper to Anathea.
“Not yet. It’s Lancaster’s fault. I tried to work with a bunch of directors in Syntherra but to no avail. That’s why I’m here. I want to shoot my shot here.”
“Castenea isn’t the Lancaster family’s territory. There’s no way that the bastard’s influence can stretch this far,” Hannah thought.
Anathea could tell from the way Hannah ground her teeth when mentioning Dominic that it was definitely a messy entanglement.
She glanced at Chloe, who was eating with her head down, and suddenly realized that from this angle, Chloe’s nose and chin
had a slight resemblance to Dominic.
Anathea froze for a moment, and a thought rose in her mind. “Could Chloe’s father be-”
Suddenly, someone slammed on the table, pulling Anathea out of her thoughts.
“Hey! There’s a cockroach on this plate!” a man shouted angrily. It was a shirtless, muscular man.
Damien immediately came over and apologized repeatedly. “I’m terribly sorry, sir. But we’ve been running this place for decades. We’ve always had excellent hygiene. This can’t possibly happen—”
“What do you mean this can’t possibly happen? Look how big it is! Who are you trying to fool?” the shirtless man roared.
“I’m so sorry, sir. Please wait a moment.”
Damien turned toward the front counter to check the security footage, but the man stopped him. “Where do you think you’re going? Trying to run?”
Damien quickly shook his head. “No, I just want to check the surveillance footage.”
Something flashed through the man’s eyes when he heard that. He looked up, and sure enough, there was a camera installed in
the restaurant.
He quickly snapped back into character and grabbed Damien, “What are you trying to look at? Are you saying I did it on purpose to scam you?”
His tone turned nasty, and he suddenly grabbed the plate, smashing it on the floor. He then flipped the entire table.
It was obvious he’d targeted Damien and Samantha for being easygoing. He’d come here with the intent to extort them.
This was a common occurrence, especially in this kind of out–of–the–way, mixed–crowd alley market. The Lowes‘ business had survived for decades and was still going strong.
Naturally, other people were jealous. Some of their competitors stooped to dirty tricks, stirring up trouble without reason.
Some customers, seeing the scene unfolding, chose to play it safe and scattered.

But Hannah, who’d grown up under the care of the Lowes, couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.
“Who the hell do you think you are, you piece of trash?”
Hannah slammed the table and pointed at Ezekiel Ware, the shirtless man. “Why did you freak out the second Mr. Hale said he was checking the footage? I bet you put the cockroach on the plate yourself!”
The man was stunned by Hannah’s outburst, but he quickly recovered and pointed at her. “Oh? How dare you twist the story when this restaurant clearly has hygiene issues? You think I’m some kind of pushover, huh? I’m going to smash this place!”
As soon as he finished speaking, a few people who’d been waiting outside for this moment came barging in with sticks and pipes in hand.
With a bang, the glass door was kicked down, shattering on the floor.
Then came the sound of the windows being smashed–glass shards clattered everywhere. Ezekiel even knocked down the surveillance caméra.
