Anathea brought Gregory to the lounge. Ollie quickly arrived with a first–aid kit and approached cautiously. “Mr. Sinclair…”
Gregory sat silently on the couch, ignoring him completely.
“I’ll do it.” Anathea took the kit and sat beside Gregory.
Only then did Gregory lift his injured hand and rest it on her lap cooperatively.
Anathea stared at the deep gash in his palm and pressed her lips together. If it weren’t for Gregory, this injury would’ve landed on her.
A strange feeling stirred in her chest. She exhaled slowly, forcing herself to stay calm, and began tending to the wound.
When the disinfectant touched his skin, Gregory frowned and looked at Anathea.
“Does it hurt?” Anathea asked softly.
Gregory shook his head and said, “I’m just glad it wasn’t you who got hurt.”
Anathea froze for a moment. Her touch grew gentler, and her focus was sharper. Her mindset now was different from the other times she’d treated his injuries before.
Once, she’d done it reluctantly. Another time, she’d had an agenda. She’d tried to please him just enough to get what she’d wanted.
But this time was different from the last two. Her emotions were tangled, and she couldn’t quite tell what was going on inside her.
Gregory noticed the conflict in her expression. He lifted his other hand and gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “I told you, I’ll make my own wishes come true. I’ll protect you and the baby. I won’t go back on my word.”
A ripple of emotion stirred in Anathea’s eyes.
“But you have to stop thinking about leaving me and stay by my side, okay?” Gregory added. His eyes locked on hers with quiet intensity.
Anathea was his addiction and his cure. He would never be able to let her go.
Anathea paused for a moment. When she met the desperation in his gaze, her fingers curled slightly, and she gave the faintest
nod.
That was enough to make Gregory smile from the bottom of his heart. He took her hand gently and said, “My grandpa is coming back tomorrow. Can I take you to meet him?”
Anathea was caught off guard.
Lennox was the head of the Sinclair family. Only after earning his approval could someone truly be considered part of the Sinclair family. For years, Lennox had lived abroad. Even when he returned occasionally, Gregory had never taken Anathea to meet him.
It was likely because Gregory had never truly believed she was worthy of being Mrs. Sinclair, let alone standing before Lennox as family.
But now, he’d made this decision. It was a complete reversal from His previous attitude.
