“No, Mrs. Sinclair Senior. Don’t worry.” Anathea shook her head. She’d always kept bad news from Brisa.
“That’s good to hear.”
Brisa nodded in satisfaction, speaking earnestly. “Actually, Gregory does care about people. Maybe it’s because he was on his own before the age of ten; it left some psychological scars.
“After he returned to the family, he’s never been good at expressing himself. But he’s not a bad person. Then there’s that incident from six years ago. That truly affected him.”

Anathea’s fingers clenched for a brief moment.

Anathea said nothing. If he’d really been looking forward to it, he wouldn’t have said what he had when she’d told him she was pregnant. And he wouldn’t have been completely absent when she’d given birth.
Brisa didn’t know what Anathea was thinking. She just gently reminded her, “You need to take care of your health this time. You mustn’t let anything go wrong again. Your blood type is special, after all.”

Everything around her seemed to fall silent, except for Brisa’s voice, which rang clearly in her ears.
“He hadn’t gotten proper rest for six months by that point, but he spent the night rushing around. When he finally heard you and the baby were safe, he collapsed and slept for days.”
Anathea didn’t know what to say. She was so stunned she couldn’t get a single word out.
Gregory hadn’t rested for six months because of his best friends‘ deaths. Yet, he’d put all of his effort into ensuring Anathea was safe that night—even though, in his eyes, she was the daughter of the man who killed his closest friends.
She’d even pleaded for mercy on Adam’s behalf just as Gregory had finally been about to get revenge.
She couldn’t imagine how much sorrow and conflict were buried in Gregory’s heart.
Brisa looked at Anathea’s shocked face, slightly surprised. “He never told you?”

Anathea pressed her lips together.
Gregory had never mentioned any of this. Anathea had never heard it from anyone else either. Maybe he’d deliberately kept it from her.

Anathea’s finger paused over the input button. She looked at Gregory coming in from outside, carefully packing up the pastries one by one for her. He was doing it so neatly, his expression serious and attentive.
