Charlotte was stunned.
Even Anathea was surprised.
Xander turned around, seeing Anathea. His eyes brightened, and he immediately ran over to her. “Mom!”
Then, he pouted and complained, “Aunt Charlotte keeps saying all kinds of weird things, so I got upset.”
Anathea turned to look at Charlotte.
Charlotte smiled guiltily. “I was just making casual conversation. You don’t mind, do you?”

At that, Anathea replied calmly, “You and your husband have been trying for children for years. You prayed to every god there is, tried every remedy, and even drank a boy’s urine-”
“Alright, stop right there! What’s wrong with you?” Charlotte shouted, her face flushed red with embarrassment.
“I was also just making a casual conversation. You don’t mind, do you?” Anathea said.
Charlotte went from red–faced to pale–faced, then red again, before leaving in defeat.
“Yes! She finally left!” Xander cheered and grabbed Anathea’s hand. “Mom, don’t get too close to her. She’s awful!”
Anathea looked at the indignant expression on his face. Thinking for a moment, she asked, “Did you say those things earlier just to talk back to her?”
“Of course not! If I say I’m going to protect you and the baby, I will!” Xander declared seriously, patting his chest.
Anathea was briefly stunned.
Then, Xander raised his voice. “No matter who it is, if they dare bully you, I’ll beat them all up!”
“No violence.” Anathea quickly grabbed his little fists and smiled helplessly. “Who taught you that?”
She’d never taught Xander to be this aggressive. Gregory’s methods were always quiet and calculated, and the school definitely wouldn’t have taught Xander this.
So, where did Xander learn this from?
Xander shut his mouth guiltily.
It was something a student he’d met at the equestrian lesson told him. She said moms went through a lot to give birth, so they must be protected. If anyone bullied her mom, she said she would beat them right back.
He’d been absolutely taken by her words. He thought she was really cool.
But he couldn’t rat her out. If he did, she might never play with him again. So, when Anathea asked, he shook his head. “No one. I just thought of it myself.”
Anathea pinched his cheek. “Why would you think about something like that, you rascal?”
“Well, I am your rascal!”
Xander hugged Anathea, pressing his face against her belly as he warned, “Listen up, whichever rascal’s in there. Be good and stop making Mom uncomfortable, or I’ll beat you when you come out!”
“Are you really going to do that?”
Xander pondered for a while. “If it’s a boy, yes. If it’s a girl… a verbal warning should do!”
Anathea couldn’t help but laugh and stroked Xander’s head. “So, you prefer a sister?”

Anathea looked at his serious profile, a warmth surging in her heart. It had been a long time since she’d felt this kind of joy and

Since she’d returned, she’d noticed how desperately Xander wanted to get close to her. But because of the hurt he’d caused her in the past, he’d been cautious.
He stayed by her side sensibly, trying to express in his own way that he really did know he was wrong and that he would be good from now on.
She’d seen all of it. But all she could do was find time to visit him after the divorce.
It wasn’t about forgiveness. She just didn’t want to treat her own child like an enemy. That would be far too exhausting
As long as they each lived well, that was enough.
