Anathea’s firm refusal made everyone’s expression in the room shift.
Some were briefly shaken, some surprised, and some confused.
Charlotte was the first to react. She pointed at Anathea and shouted, “Well, would you look at that? You’re just guilty! You’re refusing to do the test because you’re afraid the truth will come out!”
Anathea bit her lip.
The so–called non–invasive paternity test–dressed up to sound considerate and harmless–was, in reality, nothing more than a trap set for her.
If they were capable of faking medical reports, colluding with doctors, and even manipulating things at the hospital in Syntherra, then this was clearly all part of a premeditated scheme, one aimed directly at her.
If that was the case, it would be easy for them to forge a paternity test result.
Besides, Charlotte and that doctor were obviously working together. First, they’d dragged her into this mess where she had to prove her innocence, making her desperate to explain but unable to back it up.
Then, while she was flustered and anxious, they’d offered her this solution.”
They called it a solution, but it was nothing more than bait meant to lure her in.
If she actually went through with it, then no matter what the result was, she wouldn’t be able to defend herself.
That was why she refused it so resolutely.
But her refusal only gave Charlotte more ammunition to use against her. “You’d take the test if you’re really innocent. But you won’t. That already says a lot.”
Turning to Gregory, Charlotte pointed at Anathea, adding fuel to the fire. “Gregory, you’re the future head of the Sinclair family. Every word and decision you make affects the entire family. You need to act decisively! How long are you going to let this lying, manipulative woman fool you?”
“Shut up!” Gregory hollered, just in time for thunder to strike outside.
Charlotte gulped in fear.
Gregory had always had a commanding presence, even without anger.
Now that he was standing on the verge of rage, just one look from him was enough to make people cower. The powerful energy he radiated made it hard for anyone in the room to even stand comfortably.
Charlotte’s legs trembled uncontrollably, but she glanced sideways at Anathea with a glint of malicious satisfaction in her eyes.
They’d made it seem as if Anathea had fooled the cold and ruthless Gregory.
Charlotte was sure Anathea was doomed this time.
The provocation in Charlotte’s eyes didn’t go unnoticed by Anathe. She lowered her eyes, feeling as if something was stuck in her throat.
Qutside, the rain poured fiercely. Thunder crashed loudly. The constant patter beat down on her heart, making it hard for her to breathe.
She didn’t know what Gregory was going to do, but she placed her hands over her belly protectively. There was only one thing she was certain of–no matter what happened, she would protect her child.
She’d already prepared herself for the worst.

However, Gregory stretched out his hand in front of her and uttered coolly, “Let’s go home.”
Anathea froze as she looked at his hand.
What did he say? Go home?
She stared at him in a daze, studying him, as if trying to confirm what she’d just heard.
He didn’t say anything else. His face was still grim, but his hand remained outstretched in front of her.
Curling her fingers slightly, Anathea lifted her hand just a little but lowered it again.

Gregory frowned before reaching out and grabbing her wrist. The warmth of his palm closed around her wrist, and Anathea’s heart skipped a beat. Before she could react, Gregory was already leading her away by the hand.
Martin quickly followed after them. Only two people were left in the exam room, staring at each other.
The doctor let out a long sigh of relief, silently lamenting how dangerous this profession really was. Charlotte’s eyes were wide with disbelief. “How is this possible?”
