Anathea was shaken by his madness. She breathed deeply. Her eyes stung, brimming with tears that threatened to fall.
She tried to pull her hand away, but he gripped it tightly. While she was still stunned, he clamped onto the back of her neck with his other hand and leaned in, biting and kissing her lips.
The thick scent of blood mixed with the cool cedar fragrance on his body invaded her senses, entwined together in a way that
allowed no resistance.
Tears slipped down Anathea’s cheeks. She widened her eyes, shock and disbelief filling them.
She’d known Gregory would be furious once he found out she’d signed the divorce petition, but she’d never imagined he would
lose control to this extent.
She never could have imagined he would truly go this far–that he wouldn’t let her go even if he thought the baby wasn’t his.
She felt like a fish on the chopping block, while he was the sharp knife. Every word he said and every move he made was like a knife cutting into her. It wouldn’t draw blood, as it sliced straight to her soul.
But she wasn’t the only one hurting.
Gregory’s breathing was just as unsteady, his chest rising and falling rapidly. Blood was still seeping from his abdomen, with no sign of stopping. His complexion shifted visibly from anger to a deathly pale.
At last, he staggered slightly, his chin resting against Anathea’s shoulder.
Startled, Anathea finally managed to break free and tried to push him away.
But he was like a statue. No matter how hard she pushed, he wouldn’t budge.
She looked at his face, which was gradually losing all color. Clenching her teeth, she cursed at him, “Gregory, you’re a lunatic!”
“If being a lunatic is what it takes to keep you, then it doesn’t matter.” Gregory forced a smile. His bloodshot eyes brimmed with tears that finally fell. His voice was faint, barely more than a breath
Anathea froze. She couldn’t form a single complete sentence.
“Mr. Sinclair!” Martin shouted from a distance the moment he saw Gregory collapse against Anathea.
He then ran over. When he spotted the dark pool of blood on the seat, a chill rushed up his spine.
At first, he found it strange. If the bleeding had come from Gregory’s hand being cut by glass, the blood should have dried quickly.
But on closer inspection, he realized Gregory had been stabbed in the abdomen as well. Blood was still oozing from the wound, soaking through his shirt.
As Martin cried out in alarm, Gregory finally closed his eyes. Even the strongest person couldn’t hold out against that much blood loss. All strength left him, and he collapsed against Anathea
Today was destined to be chaotic.
The entire villa descended into disorder as Martin and Cyrus struggled to lift Gregory and rush him to the hospital.
Anathea remained seated where she was, staring blankly at the mess of blood on the seat and on her hands.
“Mrs. Sinclair, are you alright?” Jenny rushed over.
When she saw Anathea looking as if her soul had left her body, she burst into tears. “Mrs. Sinclair, don’t scare me like this!”

Jenny hurriedly helped Anathea up and began wiping the blood off her hands. But Gregory’s blood had also soaked into Anathea’s clothes, making it all the more shocking.
“I–I’ll help you change,” Jenny choked out as she helped Anathea upstairs.
She’d never imagined something like this could happen. Just yesterday, Gregory and Anathea had seemed perfectly fine. How could everything suddenly fall apart?
Not daring to ask, Jenny cleaned the blood off Anathea and helped her put on a fresh dress.
Anathea sat in front of the vanity mirror, staring blankly at her reflection. The tear stains on her face had already dried.
Gregory’s tearful face flashed before her eyes.
It was the first time she’d ever seen him cry.
So, even a man as cold and seemingly heartless as him could shed tears.
Anathea pressed her lips together, looking down at her hands.
Even though they were clean now, the lingering stench of blood remained. The feeling of having blood on her skin–sticky and hot–still made her entire heart tremble.
