Chapter 357
“What are you doing, Adrian?” Louie asked, annoyed.
“One of the other lawyers in the car got a few scrapes. Go take a look at her.” Adrian made up an excuse.
Louie pressed his lips together. “Lawyer? Don’t you know I hate lawyers the most?”
Adrían chuckled. “You’re still holding a grudge just because a lawyer dumped you? You’re being ridiculously petty.”
“It’s none of your business!” Louie snapped.
“Just go check on her. It’s not going to kill you. What, do you think that lawyer might be your ex or something?” Adrian dragged Louie along, believing there was no such coincidence in the world.
But the moment he opened the guest room door and saw Giselle sitting on the hospital bed reading through legal documents, Louie froze in place, his expression turning grim.
Giselle looked up at the sound, and their eyes met. Her brows furrowed as well.
For a moment, the room was filled with strange, heavy silence.
Adrian saw the looks on both their faces, and a flash of realization crossed his eyes. “No way. She’s really your ex?”
Gregory stared at Anathea, his gaze deep and unreadable.
Anathea was the first to look away, avoiding his eyes as her fingers clenched slightly.
Gregory stepped to her bedside and sat down, reaching out to hold her hand. “Are you nervous?”
Anathea pressed her lips together and tried to pull her hand back, but he only tightened his grip. He even pried open her fingers and laced his through hers, giving her no chance to resist.
Before Anathea could say anything, Gregory spoke again, almost as if to himself. “Anathea, you were planning to leave me behind that day, weren’t you?”
Anathea’s heart immediately tensed.
Sure enough, this moment had come.
She really had wanted to leave. Even though she’d known Gregory was being punished because of her, she’d still been determined to go.
She’d been so close–just a little more, and she would’ve gotten away. But fate played a cruel joke or thought she was finally free, it had yanked her right back.
Anathea bit her lip and tried to change the subject. “How are my dad and Giselle?”
“Relax. The lawyer only suffered some minor injuries,” Gregory replied.

Anathea silently let out a breath of relief. But then she realized he’d only answered about one person, and she grew anxious again. “What about my dad? How is he now?”
She remembered how, during the crash, Adam had shielded her with his body. He’d been covered in blood, The thought made Anathea’s breathing grow rapid.
Gregory tightened his grip on her hand. “Don’t worry. He’s fine too.”
How could Anathea not worry? Unless she saw Adam with her own eyes, she couldn’t be at ease. She tried to get out of bed to
find him, but Gregory held her down.
“You need to rest.”
“I want to see my dad!” Anathea’s eyes turned red at the corners.
“Don’t cry. Louie said you shouldn’t be overthinking or getting emotional right now,” Gregory uttered, brushing the corner of her eye with his thumb.
Anathea looked at the thick bandages on his hand and held back her tears, turning her head away. “Don’t touch me.”
“That lawyer’s in my hands too. She’s the one who helped overturn Adam’s case and drafted your divorce petition, right?”
Anathea’s tears stopped completely. Gregory sounded calm, but the dangerous edge in his voice made her blood run cold.
He was threatening her using Giselle and Adam.
“If you stop crying and moving around, I’ll let that lawyer go.
Anathea bit her lip, her voice trembling with anger and tears. “Don’t hurt them!”
A trace of darkness flashed through Gregory’s eyes. Anathea cared about Adam and Giselle. But she hadn’t shown a shred of concern for him.
His gaze turned cold. “If you’re so scared I’ll hurt them, then behave.”
