“What happened?” Loule froze when he heard the faint tremble in Gregory’s voice. Could it really be…

Gregory’s heavy voice came through the phone, full of despair. Louie’s eyes widened for a second, then he quickly started guiding Gregory through emergency steps.
When he arrived at Sinclair Villa with his medical team in a rusli, he opened the bedroom door and saw Gregory sitting by the bed, his face dark as ink.
He seemed shrouded in shadows, his usually upright posture now slumped, as if all the strength had been drained out of him. Louie pressed his lips together and quickly stepped forward to examine Anathea.
Gregory grabbed his hand, saying hoarsely, “No matter what, save her first.”
“Okay,” Louie replied. “You should wait outside.”
Gregory didn’t move. His eyes stayed fixed on Anathea, unwilling to look away. Unless he was looking at her, he couldn’t feel at
ease.
Louie knew how stubborn he was and had no choice but to let him stay nearby.
Only then did Gregory step aside, making space for the team. He clenched his hands, his veins bulging.
At that moment, the top medical experts in all of Castenea were gathered around Anathea.
The warm sunlight streamed across Gregory’s back, but he couldn’t feel a trace of it. As he looked at Anathea’s pale face, he felt as if his entire body had plunged into an ice cellar–he felt cold down to his bones.
He stood off to the side like a statue, his eyes locked on Anathea’s face. He only blinked when the soreness in his eyes became unbearable.
The minute hand on the clock ticked forward as time slipped by, bit by bit.
Gregory’s legs were numb, and the wounds he’d been ignoring started to ache again.
Louie and the other doctors finally finished checking Anathea’s condition. Louie let out a breath. “Thank God…”
“What?” Gregory’s eye twitched. A flicker of light passed through his eyes as he looked at Louie.
“The baby’s safe for now. She’s going to be okay too,” Louie relayed the doctors‘ words. “Anathea’s appetite hasn’t been good recently, so she didn’t ingest too much toxin. It’s not enough to cause a miscarriage.”
Still not relaxing, Gregory gripped Louie’s hand. “Will it affect her health?”
That was what he cared about most right now.
When Louie saw the urgent and worried look on Gregory’s face, he told the latter the truth. “Even though the dosage was small, it still did some damage to her body.”
Gregory’s grip tightened instantly.
Louie winced from the pain and quickly added, “But the person who poisoned her was cautious. They didn’t dare use anything too strong all at once, so they used a slow–acting toxin that seeped in gradually.
“Thankfully, we caught it in time. We’ll do everything we can to protect the baby, but… it’s going to be hard on her.”

Gregory paused as he looked at Anathea’s face. He recalled the gentle, hopeful look she wore every time she touched her belly. Then, he closed his eyes.
