Gregory pulled out the half–eaten box of organic oats Anathea had eft and tossed it at Eleanor’s feet with a loud thud. “Do you want me to expose what you did in front of your nephew?”
A flicker of shock crossed Theo’s eyes. He turned to Eleanor sharply with a frown. “Aunt Eleanor, what did you do?”
“I didn’t do anything! Don’t listen to his nonsense!” Eleanor snapped, pointing an accusatory finger at Gregory. “You think I’m supposed to be scared because you threw some random box at me Dream on!”
Gregory couldn’t be bothered with her anymore and exposed her directly. “The maid you bribed already confessed. You had her put slow–acting poison in the oats. I have both a witness and evidence. If you want to deny it, take it to the police.”
“Slow–acting poison…”
Theo felt as if a powerful electric shock ran through his body. His every nerve trembled.
“Aunt Eleanor, you-”
“Gregory!” Eleanor clenched her fists and said through gritted teeth, “Don’t you dare.”
“Oh, I almost forgot. All your connections in the police department have been transferred.” Gregory glanced at her. “If you’ve got time to throw a tantrum, you might want to start finding a good defense attorney, Mom.”
Then, he dialed Martin’s direct line and calmly ordered, “Martin, escort Mrs. Sinclair out.”
“I’m not leaving!”
Eleanor finally cracked. She slammed her hands down on his desk and screamed at him, “You ungrateful bastard! I gave you this life! Without me, you’d still be rotting in some godforsaken corner of the world! Even a pet knows how to show loyalty after all these years!”
How dare he turn on her? She couldn’t believe that the child she’d raised had betrayed her.
“I’m warning you. If it comes to it, I’ll drag that matter straight to the Sinclair family’s elders. We’ll go down together!”
Eleanor’s fierce glare pierced through him like she wanted to tear him apart. “If I can’t live well, neither will you!”
“Go ahead. Try it.”
To her surprise, Gregory didn’t even flinch at her threat. In fact, he almost looked amused. A smirk tugged at the corner of his
lips.
“Let’s go down together, then. I don’t mind. I can start over anyway. The real question is, can you handle the fallout?”
Eleanor stared at him intently. Though a faint smile played on his lips, the powerful presence he gave off sent chills down her
spine.
He wasn’t afraid of going down with her. In fact, he was almost looking forward to it. How arrogant!
At that moment, Eleanor finally realized that the child she’d raised for 19 years wasn’t a harmless pet but a ruthless beast.
Not just any beast, but one that seemed calm and obedient on the surface, yet had been lurking in the shadows, waiting to strike and sink their teeth into the jugular.
Now, this beast had fully matured, so much so that even the shackles once meant to bind him had become weapons he used to
control her.
“Mom, you can head to the police station now,” Gregory said coldly, glancing at the bodyguard by the door.
The bodyguard stepped forward and said respectfully, “This way, Mrs. Sinclair.”
