It was then that Gregory realized that Natalie was the one who save him.
But as he looked at the injury on her wrist and listened to her rele less concern, memories of that brief but firm command-” Hold on to me!“–surfaced. For some reason, an ache he couldn’t understand stirred inside him.
It was an odd feeling, one he couldn’t quite put into words.
But Natalie could recall the moment, and there was a wound on her wrist. That was proof that she was the one who saved him.
As Gregory met Natalie’s pleading eyes now, he pressed his lips into a thin line.
After a moment, he finally said to the bodyguard, “Step back.”
Only then did Natalie let out a relieved breath. “Thank you.”
“Let go!” Eleanor yanked free from the guard’s grip and shot Gregory a venomous glare. “This isn’t over!“.
She stomped her heel angrily on the marble floor, venting her frustration.
“Aunt Eleanor!” Theo hurried after her.
Gregory didn’t care at all. To him, that was just the empty bluster of a loser.
Soon, it was just him and Natalie in the office.
Gregory tossed the folder Eleanor had thrown onto his desk into the trash. Without even looking up, he asked, “Anything else?”
Natalie fidgeted with her fingers before speaking softly, “Mr. Price wants to see you to discuss the new product launch.”
This was an important project for Gregory. It was tied to a charity brand founded in honor of an old friend.
“Fine.” Gregory stood up. “Take me to him.”
“Okay.” Natalie’s lips curved into a subtle smile.
In Sinclair Villa, Anathea once again stood by the gate, only to find the bodyguards blocking her path just as before.
“Sorry, Mrs. Sinclair. You can’t leave.”
“Why not?” Xander frowned. “Why can’t Mom go out?”
“Well…” One of the guards, Howard Allen, hesitated. “We’re just following Mr. Sinclair’s orders. Please understand.”
Anathea didn’t respond but glanced at Xander. “Go on. You’re going to be late for school.”
“But Mom, there’s a parent–teacher meeting tomorrow. I want you to come with me.” Xander blinked up at her.
Anathea didn’t know what to say and only said, “You should go ahead.”
“Fine.” Xander slumped his shoulders but shot a glare at the guards blocking Anathea’s way. “Don’t you dare bully my mom!”
Howard quickly reassured him, saying, “Don’t worry, Mr. Xander. We’re here to keep her safe. As long as she stays in this villa, she’s absolutely secure.”
Anathea snorted inwardly at that.
What kind of safety was this if it came without freedom? What was the difference between this and a bird trapped in a cage?
After sending Xander off, she turned and went back inside.

Just then, a female voice called out, “Good morning, Ms. Jacobson
Anathea paused but didn’t turn around. It was Natalie’s voice. She kept walking without a glance back.
Upon seeing that, Natalie caught up and stood in front of her with smile. “Ignoring me? Anathea, that’s a bit rude, don’t you think?”
“Ignoring who?” Anathea glanced at her, sizing her up. “Who are you?”
Natalie’s expression darkened slightly. She hadn’t expected Anatha’s tongue to have sharpened so much after their time apart.
Still, she lifted her chin arrogantly, like a swan looking down on a duckling. “Gregory asked me to pick up some documents he left at home.”
Cyrus hurried over to guide Natalie. “The files should be in the study, but I don’t know which drawer. You might want to ask Mrs. Sinclair.”
Anathea stayed silent.
“No need,” Natalie said smoothly. “I know where they are. I used to work with him in the study, so I’m very familiar with where the files are.”
She looked at Anathea. Noticing her silence, she smirked. “Ms. Jacobson, you don’t even know where the files are?”
Her tone was loaded, clearly meant to provoke. She expected Anathea’s expression to falter.
“The boss‘ wife doesn’t need to know things like that,” Anathea replied coolly.
The next second, she shot Natalie a glance and smirked as well. “The boss‘ subordinates are the ones who need to know.”
