Chapter 391

Gregory tried to take the box cutter from Anathea, but she was on guard. She pressed her pocket down tightly, giving him no

chance

He let out a long, quiet sigh

For the first time, the untouchable CEO of Sinclair Group felt utterly defeated

Anathea finally arrived at Castenea Central Hospital as she wished. She was led to Adam’s ward with the help of his attending doctor, Patrick Myers

But just as she was about to go in, Patrick stopped her. The patient’s been given medication and is resting. It’s best not to disturb him.”

What kind of medication?Anathea asked anxiously

Just some.sedatives and stabilizers. He suffered a severe shock earlier and has been under immense stress. He needs medication to help him rest,Patrick replied. But don’t worry, Mrs. Sinclair. He won’t need it for long. He just needs some time

to recover.”

When will he wake up?she asked. She just wanted to talk to Adam and hear his voice. That was the only way she could truly feel at peace

He only just fell asleep. It’ll be at least eight hours before he wakes,Patrick replied

Frowning, Anathea murmured, Eight hours”

She’d been planning on staying here until Adam woke up, but Patrick seemed to pick up on that and added gently, Mrs. Sinclair, your pregnancy is still in a delicate stage. You really should rest too. Why don’t you go home for now?”

Anathea hesitated. But she knew she had to think about the baby as well

Knowing Adam was safe and recovering gave her some relief. At the very least, Gregory hadn’t lied to her

She cast one last, lingering glance at Adam in the ward, then turned to leave

Gregory stood outside the corridor, quietly waiting for her to walk out at her own pace

You saw him. Feel better now?he asked

Anathea pressed her lips together, offering no reply

She was surprised. Despite how much Gregory hated Adam, he’d still arranged such a good ward for him and even gotten Patrick, a wellknown specialist in Castenea, to treat him

She hadn’t expected this. It left her conflicted

Everything Gregory said was meant to make her hate him, but everything he did made it impossible for her to truly do so

He was a walking contradiction

And so were her feelings

Without answering, she brushed past Gregory and walked on ahead

Gregory took a long stride and fell in step beside her. Afraid she would reject his presence, he kept just enough distance. His gaze never left her, watching, her every move

Anathea felt uneasy under the weight of his watchful gaze. She stuffed her hands into her coat pockets, lowered her head to avoid looking at him, and quickened her pace

Chapter 391

But just as she reached the corner, a nurse came around, pushing a cart straight toward her

Watch out,Gregory’s voice rang beside her. His hand closed around her arm and yanked her toward him

Caught off guard, Anathea was pulled into a warm embrace. The faint scent of cedarwood lingered at her nose

With a soft clink, the box cutter in her pocket slipped out as Gregory grabbed her arm

She froze, then reached out to pick it up

But Gregory was fasterhe picked up the box cutter before she could. The moment it was in his hand, he sensed something was off about it

Anathea’s eyes flickered with something she couldn’t quite hide

Gregory narrowed his eyes, turning the cutter over in his hand. He pushed the blade out

Back in the car, it had been dark, so it was normal that he hadn’t been able to see the blade’s gleam. But with the hospital’s bright lighting, the blade should have reflected a noticeable shine

But the box cutter in Gregory’s hand lacked the sharp gleam of real steel. Plus, it was noticeably lighter than any cutter he’d handled before

He raised an eyebrow, then pressed his thumb firmly against the blade

There was no cut or bloodjust a shallow dent in his skin

Anathea bit her lip as she met Gregory’s amused gaze

A plastic toy,he said, holding the cutter out to her

His eyes locked onto hers as he said, Well, my dear wife, I think you owe me an explanation.”
