Gregory stabbed a dagger into Harvey’s shoulder, exactly the same way Victor had been stabbed.
Then, Gregory pulled out a small bottle containing black pills.
“W–What are you doing?” Harvey’s voice trembled, eyes filled with terror.
“Relax. I’m not going to kill you,” Gregory said with a smirk. “I just want to make sure the rest of your life is pure hell.”
“No! No!”
Harvey struggled desperately, shouting in panic, “If you do that, I will kill that woman for real! She’s carrying your child, isn’t she? Even if you don’t care about her, there’s no way you could bear to see your own baby die!”
Gregory paused slightly, his eyes narrowing.
Even now, Harvey was still trying to test Gregory. Well, if that was the case, Gregory would make sure he gave up completely.
“From the very beginning, being the head of the family has been the only thing that matters to me,” Gregory said terrifyingly calmly.
“If someone wants to destroy what matters to me the most, they’re welcome to try. I’ll go to war for it. As for people who don’t matter, well, you’re wasting your time.”

“People who don’t matter,” Anathea repeated his words in her head, her breath caught in her throat.
Hearing those words, Harvey finally realized he had bet on the wrong card.
Suddenly, he laughed and said, “Damn, Gregory. You really are a heartless monster. One day, you’ll pay the price for everything you’ve said and done today-‘

Before he could finish, Gregory grabbed him by the throat and forced the pills down his throat. Within moments, Harvey collapsed to the ground, convulsing violently.
Foam began to spill from his mouth, and then his body stiffened as he lost consciousness.
“Uncle Harvey had a stroke. Take him away,” Gregory ordered coldly, not sparing Harvey a single glance.
As though he was stepping over nothing more than a pile of trash, Gregory strode past Harvey’s body and entered the private chapel, heading straight for the seat meant for the head of the family.
His steps were a bit unsteady, but he never stopped.
The true succession ceremony had only just begun.
Anathea watched Gregory’s figure gradually fade into the distance the light in her eyes dimming entirely.
At that moment, she didn’t even have the strength to call for help. She just stared at the back of the man walking away without a hint of hesitation, her eyes rimmed with red.
So, she was just someone who didn’t matter. No wonder he could break his promises so easily and never once truly explain -anything to her.
That was the truth–she had never really mattered that much to Gregory.
To Gregory, she was nothing more than a pet kept at home, something to play with when he was in the mood, someone to seek affection from when he felt like it. But once the interest faded…
“Feelings are the most useless thing in the world.” His cold, heartless words echoed relentlessly in her ears.
Anathea felt as though something had clogged her chest, making impossible to breathe.

Observing her reaction, Natalie felt a wave of satisfaction wash over her.

She had known it all along. Once he got into a direct confrontation Gregory would never show his weakness in front of others. No matter what, he would say every cruel word necessary, cutting off any chance of being exploited.
It was just a shame that he didn’t know that the woman he tried so hard to protect was in the attic right now, hearing every word he said with her own ears.
This was exactly what Natalie wanted.
All of them wanted to use Anathea to stop Gregory from ascending to the position of head of the family, so Natalie was going to do the opposite.
She would use Gregory to break Anathea’s heart.
Since Gregory was so obsessed with Anathea, then Natalie would strike from Anathea’s side. She would make sure Anathea gave up on Gregory.
Just letting Anathea witness that scene with her own eyes wasn’t nearly enough.
As Gregory fully stepped into the private chapel, Natalie turned back to glance at Anathea, whose spirit seemed to be slipping
away.
“Oh, right. Almost forgot–there’s one more piece of good news I haven’t told you yet.” Natalie acted as if she’d just remembered as she tugged at the corners of her lips.
“Actually, your dad never woke up at all. He’s in a vegetative state now.”
