Chapter 434
“Dominic!” Hannah glared at him warily. “Don’t you dare get any funny ideas about my daughter!”
Dominic shot her a lazy glance, “I was just asking. Why are you so worked up? Only guilty people get that defensive.”
Hannah was caught off guard by his remark and gave a cold snort. You’re the one feeling guilty! Stay the hell away from my daughter. She doesn’t need your bad luck rubbing off on her!”
Dominic frowned and clicked his tongue. “Damn, Hannah. You never pull your punches, do you?”
She wasn’t interested in wasting breath on him. Pulling Chloe into her arms, she leaned down and whispered, “Chloe, don’t talk to random strangers, okay? You never know if someone’s crazy.”
Chloe caught the way Dominic’s face darkened instantly and couldn’t help but giggle. Still, she listened to Hannah. She buried her head into Hannah’s shoulder, not saying another word to Dominic.
He gave Hannah a long, pointed look. Any time something even remotely involved Chloe, she turned into a porcupine, bristling with spikes and ready to attack.
But from the look on her face earlier, he was already 70% sure about Chloe’s identity, so there was no need to push further. He could afford to wait.
He straightened up and withdrew his gaze. Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced toward Anathea’s ward, then turned and strode off.
Just as he stepped out of the hospital, his phone rang. It was Grace calling.
This time, he didn’t decline or ignore it. He picked it up.
“Dominic! What the hell are you doing? Are you still getting married or not?”
Grace had already set up the entire wedding venue, only for Dominic to suddenly vanish without a trace.
“No,” Dominic replied calmly, his tone making it clear there was no room for discussion. “Didn’t you say it was either get married or have a kid? Well, here’s the good news. I’ve got a kid.”
He moved the phone away from his ear right after saying that.
Sure enough, Grace’s shrill scream burst through the speaker. “What did you just say?”
Dominic brought the phone back and repeated, “Congratulations. You have a granddaughter.”
He wanted to congratulate himself too. Somehow, he had the most adorable daughter in the world.
Just thinking about Chloe’s sweet little face–like a tiny carbon copy of Hannah’s–made the corners of his inouth twitch up.
“You brat! You’re always screwing things up!”
On the other end of the line, Grace was so furious she nearly fainted. But that wasn’t all. Dominic dropped another bombshell that made her nearly drop her phone. A look of disbelief crossed her eyes.
“A–Are you sure?”
“Not quite.” As Dominic glanced down at the blood test report in his hand, a thoughtful glint flickered in his eyes. “But we’ll know for sure very soon.”
Anathea woke up from the contraction pains after the anesthesia wore off.
Her eyes fluttered open, and her hand instinctively went to her belly, only to land on someone else’s hand,

She didn’t have to look to know whose hand it was.
The owner of this hand had once pulled her into an embrace and told her he wanted to start over with her.
But it was also he who built lie upon lie and drove a stake straight through the heart she had just barely managed to put back › together.
She looked at him coldly. The resistance and rejection in her eyes were clearly reflected in Gregory’s gaze.
“What do you want now, Mr. Sinclair?” Her voice was raspy and weak, like speaking itself was exhausting. “Are you here to feed me another lie?”
Gregory froze.
Anathea knew about Adam.
Her face and lips were pale, devoid of any color, as if she might fade away into the sunlight at any moment. Her eyes seemed to be covered by a hazy, gray veil as she stared up at the ceiling.
She didn’t even want to waste a glance on him. And yet he sat by her side with his hand resting gently on her belly.
His palm was warm. But her body was ice.
The waves of pain made her painfully aware that the child she had desperately tried to keep was gone. Her eyes reddened, but she didn’t shed a single tear.
