“Anathea?” A flicker of surprise flashed in Adrian’s eyes. He glance between Theo and Gregory, looking thoroughly entertained.
“Gregory, did you really think that locking her up and playing the caring husband every day would make her forget everything she’s been through? That kind of pain doesn’t just vanish!”
Theo jabbed a finger at Gregory. “Don’t you get it? As long as she stays with you, she’ll always be in danger. Those who are after you will never spare anyone close to you. And yet, you’re still selfish enough to trap her by your side! You don’t love her. This is just your twisted possessiveness talking!”
“So you thought you could just lure me out to some remote corner of nowhere and secretly send my wife away?” Gregory asked calmly.
Theo faltered. He knew it wasn’t exactly the right thing to do. But he didn’t care at all.
“So what if I did? She doesn’t want to be tied to you and be your wife!” Theo scoffed. “She chose to accept my help. That proves she’s dead set on leaving you! This is the lesson you deserve—”
“Theo!” Adrian cut him off coldly. “That’s enough. Don’t push it.”
Theo reluctantly lowered his pointing finger and muttered, “Whatever. I’ve already arranged everything for her. Even if you go back now, it’s too late. From this moment on, I’m the only person who knows where she’s gone.”
Yes, he was being selfish.
If only he knew Anathea’s whereabouts, it would be a special secret just between the two of them. That way, he could still find her someday. It was his way of keeping a door open for himself.
However, Gregory simply gave a faint smirk and said calmly, “I told you before. Your selfishness is going to get someone killed.” The words dragged Theo back to that suffocating moment in the private chapel. His voice dropped. “What do you mean?”
At that moment, his phone rang. It was the driver he had sent to pick up Anathea.
Theo immediately answered. He asked tensely, “Did you get her?”
“Mr. Harrington, I’ve been waiting for almost an hour, but I haven’t seen Ms. Jacobson.”
“What?” Theo froze.
It should have taken ten minutes tops from her ward to the parking lot. How could over an hour pass with no sign of her?
Theo hung up and immediately dialed another number. As soon as it connected, he snapped,
“Didn’t I tell you to pick up Anathea? Where the hell were you?”
“I–I got a message from Mr. Clarke. He said you had arranged for someone else to pick her up and told me not to make a move.”
“When did I tell Rory…” Theo trailed off.
Rory Clarke had been by his side ever since he graduated and started working. He was Theo’s trusted right–hand man.
But Theo had forgotten one thing. Rory had been handpicked by Eleanor herself.
Theo stumbled, and his phone slipped right out of his hand.
“I have to go back!” He ran toward the car, but Gregory’s bodyguards blocked his way.
“Get out of my way!” Theo shouted, panicked. “Anathea is in danger! I have to get back!”
Gregory didn’t move. His face was stone.

“Gregory! Are you even listening to me?” Theo’s voice cracked. “This place is way too remote. If we don’t go now, something could happen to her!”
They might miss their only chance to save her.
Gregory gave him a slow, cool glance. “Now you realize just how stupid it was to drag us all the way out here all for your own selfish plans?”
