Chapter 469
Anathea gave an exasperated shake of her head. She knew Evangeline, who loved to drink despite being a lightweight, was incorrigible. She had no choice but to have Lena escort Evangeline back.
“I’ll come back to pick you up after she’s settled in,” Lena said to Anathea before leading an inebriated Evangeline out of the lounge.
Anathea and Olivia were the only ones left in the lounge. The latter mused in surprise, “You sure know how to hold your drink. You’re not even tipsy!”
When Olivia first met Anathea, the latter had been a slip of a submissive woman who stood behind her husband and let him drink on her behalf.
But now, Anathea had become more outgoing and dazzling. It was as if she was glowing from within, and it was hard not to find her dependable.
It was proven, then, that one only had to practice one’s expertise to shine like a diamond, and Anathea was exceptional in her art. It was why Olivia trusted her so much to begin with.
“You’ve changed a lot,” Olivia remarked seriously, her gaze locking with Anathea’s.
“Have 1?” Anathea cupped her face, her eyes turning into crescents as she beamed. “Have I gotten prettier?”
“More shameless,” Olivia countered wryly.
“You’re the shameless one!” Anathea feigned anger as she poked Olivia’s cheek playfully. “I’m simply self–aware.”
Perhaps the drinks had emboldened her and encouraged her narcissism. Olivia clicked her tongue. “Yes, yes, you’re the most self–aware of them all.”
Olivia had only just picked up her glass to continue drinking when her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and rejected the call without hesitation. However, the caller seemed intent on getting through to her, for they called again.
In the end, Olivia switched off her phone altogether.
“Who was that?” Anathea asked curiously, leaning over.
“My deadbeat ex–husband.” Olivia was indifferent, and her tone was laced with disgust when she mentioned Wesley.
“I thought we’d go our separate ways for good, and I agreed to play along as his loving wife when duty called, for old times‘ sake.
“But I didn’t think he’d have an illegitimate son with his lover and secretly transfer his assets to them! Why should I go easy on him when he didn’t even care about crossing the line?”
To retaliate, Olivia had taken Wesley to court and engaged the services of the attorney Anathea recommended for the case.
The attorney had successfully secured 90% of marital assets for Olivia and had her appointed as the new CEO of Leia Group.
“Now that he’s penniless, he’s using our kid as leverage to beg me to forgive and reconcile with him.” Olivia grimaced in contempt. “He didn’t even think about our kid when he cheated on me!”
She couldn’t help cringing in disgust when she heard Wesley’s voice now.
Anathea said nothing and only listened quietly while Olivia ranted. When Olivia got tired of complaining, she picked up her glass and sipped her wine.
She then glanced at Anathea and asked in amusement, “Look at me, getting so engrossed with sorting out my own failed marriage that I forgot to ask you how things are with a certain Mr. Sinclair. You’ve been living here for close to three months. When do you plan on returning home?”
Anathea conveniently ignored the question about Gregory and chose to answer the other one. “I don’t know. I might stay here for a little while longer.”

“How suspicious.” Olivia narrowed her eyes as if sensing a potentially juicy story. “Your husband’s a total hottie, and instead of flying home to him, you choose to stay here. Don’t tell me you’ve found a new, hotter sidepiece-”
Before Olivia could finish her sentence, Anathea shoved a piece of fruit into her mouth. “That should keep your mouth busy for a while.”
At that moment, a towering figure appeared outside the lounge.
He slowly entered the lounge holding Anathea’s jacket, then stopped behind Anathea to drape it over her shoulders as he prompted softly, “Ana, you’ve got a busy day tomorrow. It’s best if you call it a night and get some rest.“!
