“What’s wrong?” Anathea let Gregory go and looked at his neck. She noticed a wound where a shard of glass from the champagne tower had cut him.
“It’s nothing,” Gregory said, covering it with his hand. “It’s just a small scratch. Nothing serious.”
Anathea nodded. “Oh, take care of it yourself, then. I’ll leave first.
He grabbed her hand again, looking at her with a pleading gaze. “Actually, it still hurts a bit. Really.”
Anathea said nothing.
His expression made her recall that rainy night when Gregory held her waist and begged her not to leave in his hoarse voice, saying she was the only person he had left in this world.
For a moment, a ripple passed through Anathea’s eyes. She turned her head away, not wanting to look at him.
Gregory’s eyes darkened. He’d lost his calm today, especially when Anathea agreed to dance with Thomas.
He couldn’t hold it in any longer as he’d rushed to where Anathea was after putting on his mask. Just as her hand was about to touch another man’s, Gregory had pulled her away.
But that waltz was like a dream. When the music stopped, the dream ended, and the distance between him and Anathea grew again.
He looked down, hiding the emotion in his eyes. He looked as if a heavy, quiet weight hung over him.
“Let me see if there’s a first aid kit nearby,” Anathea uttered. Gregory got hurt protecting her, after all. She couldn’t just ignore it.
Gregory was momentarily stunned. His eyes brightened again. “Okay.”
He followed closely behind her, a faint, almost unnoticeable smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
By the time Anathea finally found the first aid kit, Gregory was already sitting on the couch, waiting for her to tend to his wound However, just then, someone opened the door to the dressing room.
“Greg, what’s taking you so long? I’ve been looking everywhere for you.” Louie walked in, his previously slightly annoyed expression shifting the moment he saw the two figures inside.
They were divorced, yet they were alone in a room.
The atmosphere turned strangely awkward.
Anathea was well aware of Louie’s gossip–filled gaze and promptly set the first aid kit on the table. “Since a professional doctor is here, I’ll be going now.”
Gregory opened his mouth to say something but stopped himself. Anathea didn’t look at him again. She just walked past Louie and out the door. She closed it behind her, blocking Gregory’s view
The room immediately fell into silence.
“What’s going on?” Louie blinked and leaned toward Gregory. “Did I come at the wrong time?”
“What do you think?” Gregory glared at Louie.
Though there was no expression on Gregory’s face, Louie still sensed the deep resentment behind his eyes.
But honestly, Louie didn’t feel he’d done anything wrong. He cleared his throat and immediately put on a charming smile. “No worries. Let this professional take care of your wound. I promise my bandaging skills are way better than hers!”
Gregory remained silent before taking out his phone and dialing Martin’s number. “Help me investigate who tampered with the

champagne tower.”
Martin replied, “On it.”
“Wasn’t it an accident?” Louie looked puzzled.
“This is a grand, high–profile wedding. Most of the spots are basically sponsored. Those brands want maximum exposure, so naturally, they make sure their products are flawless.”
Especially given it was something as huge as a champagne tower, someone would usually guard it. But….
“No one was near the tower at the time.” Gregory’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Louie caught on quickly. “Someone distracted the staff on purpose?”
“Yes.”
Gregory stood up and pulled the curtain open, looking out over the lawn where the wedding was held.
Though night had fallen, the lights were dazzling, offering a clear view of the whole scene.
His cold gaze settled on Frederick, who was leisurely drinking in a corner.
Frederick’s eyes were icy and unreadable.
Anathea returned to the wedding. Evangeline and Lena were already at their seats waiting for her.
Evangeline’s cheeks were flushed red as she held a bottle of red wine. She was obviously tipsy again. Lena, looking helpless, was supporting Evangeline and trying to persuade her to drink less.
