Chapter 501
Chloe hesitated, feeling a bit lost. She glanced at the others, then looked at Samuel, who was crying like a kid who just lost his favorite toy. Finally, she said, “Just have him apologize to me. That’s enough.”
“Just an apology?” Xander asked, feeling confused.
Chloe nodded. “Yeah.”
Samuel sniffled, forcing himself to stop crying. He stepped in front of her and choked out, “I’m sorry! I was wrong! I’m really sorry…”
Chloe pressed her lips together and said nothing. Even though Samuel had apologized, she had no intention of forgiving him.
Seeing that the matter was mostly resolved, Emily stepped forward to smooth things over. “This was my oversight, and I sincerely apologize to both of you. I’ll make sure to keep a closer eye on Samuel from now on so he won’t cause trouble again.” She then crouched down in front of Chloe and said sincerely, “I’m sorry, Chloe. I misunderstood you earlier.”
“It’s fine,” Chloe replied, though her expression clearly showed she wasn’t in the mood.
Given her state, it was obvious she couldn’t go back to class. As a result, Anathea requested a day off for her, and Emily quickly agreed
“And me too!” Xander called out, looking at Anathea eagerly. “Mommy, there’s only one hour of after–school left, and I already finished all my work. You finally came home–can I spend some time with you?”
Before Anathea could respond, Xander started using all his best tricks to act cute and pitiful.
“Please, Mommy! Just this once, I’m begging you.”
He knew she always gave in when he acted soft.
Sure enough, when Anathea saw his pitiful little face, she gave in and nodded.
“That’s great!” Xander cheered. “I’ll go pack my bag right now–and Chloe’s too!” he added eagerly.
Anathea chuckled and waved him off, then turned to Hannah. “Go bring the car around. I’ll take the two of them out for a bit.”
“Got it,” Hannah said, gently touching Chloe’s cheek. “Come meet me later with Thea, okay?”
– Chloe nodded and held Anathea’s hand as they walked out.
As they walked down the hallway, Anathea kept watching Chloe. She could tell Chloe was feeling down, but so Hannah wouldn’t worry.
Anathea’s heart ached at how thoughtful Chloe was.

She bent down, gently held Chloe’s hands, and asked softly, “Even though he apologized, you’re still upset, aren’t you?”
Now that it was just the two of them, Chloe finally let go. She hugged Anathea tightly and whispered, “I really wanted to teach Samuel a lesson, but I didn’t want to cause trouble for Mommy. She’s already working so hard, taking care of me on her own.”
Even when she was the one being hurt, Chloe swallowed it all just to make things easier for Hannah.
Anathea felt a pang in her heart. She reached out and gently brushed Chloe’s hair. “How about this–I’ll offer your mommy a job with me. That way, she won’t have to work so hard anymore. How does that sound?”
Chloe’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
“Of course. Have I ever lied to you?” Anathea said with a soft smile. “Come on, give me a little smile, sweetie.”
“Okay!” Chloe said with a smile.
