At that moment, Anathea didn’t know what words could describe how she felt.
It was exactly like the looks the crowd was giving her right now–doubtful and disbelieving.
More than anything, she felt uneasy because she had never met Grace before, let alone spent time with her. Anathea had no idea what kind of person Grace was.
But the moment she had a video call with Grace, all her doubts vanished.
Anathea saw the noblewoman, who was rumored to be difficult to deal with and hard to approach, burst into tears the instant she saw Anathea.
“You’re my daughter…” Grace’s voice choked, and she trembled.
She listened to Grace’s emotional and regretful voice. “I’m sorry, sweetheart. It was my fault for losing you. It was all my fault. I shouldn’t have told you to wait where you were. I should’ve held your hand the whole time.”
Anathea could see that although Grace maintained herself well, there were two very noticeable patches of white hair at her temples.
Dominic had told Anathea that ever since she went missing, Grace had been consumed by guilt and turned gray overnight.
And now, she had finally found her daughter.
Grace would stare at Anathea tenderly. She only had her attention on Anathea, no one else, including Shirley, whom she had been defending just moments ago.
At this very moment, Grace had completely cast Shirley aside.
Shirley stared at Anathea with widened eyes.
She opened her mouth, but not a single word came out.
Anathea was the very Ms. Lancaster Shirley had been so desperate to curry favor with. How could she accept that? How could she bring herself to address Anathea as such?
Just thinking about how she had said she wanted to meet Ms. Lancaster right in front of Anathea made Shirley want to slap herself then and there.
Anathea looked at Shirley with a slight raise of a brow, amused by the way Shirley looked right now. “What’s wrong, Ms. Watson? You kept saying you wanted to meet me so you could give me a gift and be friends with me. But now that I’m standing right in front of you, you look rather disappointed.”
Grace also cast a glance at Shirley.
Shirley tightened her fingers and dug her nails into her palm before forcing out a polite smile. “Not at all, Ms. Lancaster. I’m absolutely thrilled to see you. How could I possibly be disappointed? I’m actually so happy that I don’t even know what to say.”
“Is that so?”
Anathea tugged at the corner of her lips, her gaze falling on the white diamond necklace in Shirley’s hands. “That necklace…”

Only then did Shirley catch on. “I prepared this just for you, Ms. Lancaster. Take a look. Do you like it?”
Shirley was tightening her fingers so hard her palms were nearly torn apart, but she still managed to present the necklace to Anathea with both hands,
Frederick quickly stepped forward too and added with a smile, “Ms. Lancaster, this is an antique necklace my sister specially bought at an auction. It really complements the dress you’re wearing. Why don’t you try it on?” The way he was acting now was completely different from when he had gone head–to–head with her back in Grendova.
But since he liked to put on a show, Anathea naturally played along. “Sure.” Taking the necklace, Anathea looked at Grace and praised, “It is quite pretty.” “As long as you like it,” Grace said with a smile, eyes fixated only on Anathea. Shirley’s expression became complicated.
Though she hated Anathea, she had to admit Anathea was being tactful enough not to embarrass Shirley in front of everyone. If Anathea were to cause a scene here, Shirley would be utterly humiliated.
Anathea was about to put on the necklace. Grace was smiling in satisfaction, and Shirley was just about to breathe a sigh of relief.
But just then, Anathea suddenly paused and locked eyes with Shirley with a faint, mocking smile.
Shirley froze because Anathea just threw the necklace straight onto the floor.
