Upon hearing that, Grace nearly choked on her tea. She pointed at Hannah in outrage. “You….”
She had never met anyone this shameless, bold, and absurd in their greed.
But Hannah just blinked innocently. “Didn’t you say I could write down whatever amount I wanted, Mrs. Lancaster?”
Grace was momentarily speechless. Her expression darkened.
And then, Hannah let out a laugh Holding the check in both hands, she tore it cleanly in two right in front of Grace.
Grace froze. “What do you mean by that?”
“I was just joking,” Hannah said with a smile. “Don’t worry, Mrs. Lancaster. I have money, looks, a great figur talent, and acting skills. I’ve got millions of fans and suitors lining up from here to overseas. Your precious sor hardly someone I’d obsessively cling to.
“I’m not taking your money. But I do hope you’ll keep a better eye on him. Make sure he stops showing up in fi of me all the time. It’s getting pretty annoying”
Grace pressed her lips together.
She should have been relieved that this woman clearly had no deep attachment to Dominic. But instead, there w a strange weight sitting on her chest.
It didn’t make sense.
It had to be because Hannah’s tone was just so insufferable.
Grace took a deep breath to steady herself. “If you don’t want the money, suit yourself. But remember what you said. If you go back on your word and keep tangling with Dominic, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
“Relax, Mrs. Lancaster. Your son isn’t exactly some irresistible prize,” Hannah said with a chuckle and a shrug.‘ I’m not interested.”
With that, she stood. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll get going. Let’s hope we don’t meet again.”
Hannah gave a carefree wave, turned, and strode toward the door.
But the moment she opened it, a tall figure was standing right there, casting a long shadow that completely engulfed her, even with her five–foot–seven frame and the extra two inches from her heels.
Hannah blinked, stunned.
A flicker of surprise flashed in Grace’s eyes when she saw the unexpected figure. “You’re back already?” Wasn’t he supposed to return later?
“If I hadn’t, how else would I have caught this delightful scene of my mother trying to pay someone off with a check?”
Grace looked away, a trace of guilt flashing in her eyes. Dominic had told her clearly that he would handle things himself and didn’t need her interference.
She had agreed, but she immediately turned around and did exactly what she promised she…

Sensing the shift, Hannah attempted to slip around Dominic’s side and make a run for it.
But before she could take another step, Dominic lifted his arm and braced it against the doorframe, effectively caging her in.
She almost stumbled into his chest. His amber scent curled around her.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Dominic arched a brow
“If I hadn’t come back, I would’ve missed that rousing little speech of yours. What a shame that would’ve been.”
He looked down at her with a faint smile on his lips, but it didn’t reach his eyes. If anything, there was a sharpness behind it.
Hannah gulped, suddenly feeling diffident.
But before she could react further, her gaze landed on the small figure behind Dominic, and her eyes widened in surprise.
“Mommy!”
Chloe peeked out from behind Dominic with a bright smile. “You’re here too!”
Hannah’s expression changed at once. Her voice was laced with a nervous edge she herself didn’t seem aware of. Chloe? What are you doing with him?”
“You mean this handsome man?”
Chloe blinked, then reached up and took Dominic’s hand. She beamed. “He’s the daddy I picked for myself. Do you like him, Mommy?”
