Louie cleared his throat, then regained his composure like nothing happened and said casually, “I should head to the ER. Make yourself comfortable.”

In truth, Louie didn’t know what had come
er him, either. His liart had been racing since he heard the patient’s last name was Chamberlain, but it wasn’t as if it was unique to Giselle; surely there were others in the world who had that last name.
After talking some sense into himself, Louie gradually calmed down. He stopped before the patient’s bed and pulled the drape aside. His breath hitched when he met the patient’s gaze. It really was Giselle.
Louie went still for a few seconds, then snapped out of his daze. “What happened?”
“The patient had an epileptic fit. We managed to suppress it with a sedative,” the nurse reported.
Only then did Louie notice the young man lying on the bed. Giselle had been standing by the man’s bedside, clearly the caretaker in this situation.
Abreath of relief escaped Louie then, but he still frowned and cut a dark look at Giselle, “Is this another boyfriend of yours?”
He still hadn’t forgotten about her last boyfriend, who had fooled around and ended up getting his manhood stuck in a bottle. While the man hadn’t been fooling around with Giselle when he landed himself in the unfortunate predicament, he’d been seeing her at the time. One had to wonder if they’d already gone all the way.
It hadn’t been that long since that bottle incident, yet Giselle had moved on to another guy! Was she an aspiring serial dater?
Louie grew sullen at the thought of this, and when he spoke to Giselle, it was with a snarky tone.
“I don’t know what kind of filthy nonsense you have in that head of yours, Louie,” Giselle snapped, tossing a set of medical records at him. “This is my younger brother, Gabriel Chamberlain
Louie froze, then quickly went through Gabriel’s medical records. Epilepsy…”
Doubt flickered in his eyes as he immediately took out his flashlight and examined Gabriel’s eye movement. His face darkened
at once.
“We need a full cerebral examination, stat!” he ordered the nurse. Move it!”
“Is something wrong?” Giselle asked.
Louie replied tersely, “I’m not sure, but what he has isn’t just an ordinary case of epilepsy.”
“I knew it…” Giselle seemed to have expected this, but her heart sank all the same when she heard Louie’s answer.
Upon seeing Giselle’s ashen face and how her lips had pursed into a grim line, Louie reassured her calmly, “Don’t scare yourself
before the tests come back.”
She said nothing and lowered her head, grasping her fingers rightly. Even her shoulders were trembling slightly.
It took Louie one glance to know something was off about Giselle. He hurriedly produced a bottle of pills from his pocket and
took two pills out for her.
She stiffened at the sight of the pills, somewhat surprised. Only psychiatric patients would carry those pills on their person, and Louie certainly did not have such mental health problems.
“The water cooler’s just across the hall. Go help yourself to a cup,” Louie instructed coolly, all business–like as if she were just another patient’s family.

Giselle took the pills and helped herself to a cup of water, then popped the pills into her mouth. The anxious feeling that had gripped her moments ago gradually relented, but her shoulders still trembled, not that her thin clothing helped.
Louie heaved a sigh and rose to his feet. He shrugged off his jacket and walked up to Giselle, draping it over her shoulders.
“I don’t need-“Giselle began to refuse.
“Just take the jacket, will you? I don’t want you collapsing before your brother’s tests come back. It’ll just be more work for me,” Louie grumbled.
It was only after hearing this that Giselle acquiesced, thanking him softly.
Shoving his hands into his pockets, Louie kept his expression neutral and said nothing.
Half an hour later, Louie had the results of Gabriel’s cerebral examination.
Giselle was so nervous that her palms turned sweaty. She stared at Louie intently, and when he met her bloodshot eyes, he paused before telling her the truth, “It’s an arteriovenous malformation. There are signs he’s suffering from a hemorrhage.”
