“Why is this happening?” Anathea’s eyes prickled. It had taken so long and so much work for Adam to regain How could he not recognize her?

Theo pursed his lips when he saw how devastated Anathea looked le carefully put a hand on her shoulder. “He’ll be fine. Don’t worry.”
Anathea made no reply. She was truly worried about Adam. Was his amnesia a side effect?
Half an hour later, the doctors eased Adam back into a slumber and emerged from the room.
Anathea immediately approached them and asked, “Doctors, what’s wrong with
my
dad?”
“He may have a blood clot in his brain that’s compressing his hippocampus, resulting in short–term amnesia,” one of the doctors explained.
“Is there a way to treat this condition?” Anathea pressed.
“We aren’t sure yet. We could start a few treatments to clear the blood clot, and hopefully that’ll help with the memory loss. But for now, the patient is too weak to undergo treatment. He’ll have to recuperate for some time.”
Anathea tried to hide her disappointment and nodded. “I see. Thank you, doctor.”
She glanced at Adam, who lay asleep in the hospital bed. Her fingers were threaded tightly together.
“Everything will be alright. The doctor said there’s a chance surgery can fix this, right?” Theo comforted her. “We’ll let your father recuperate, and once he’s strong enough, he can get the surgery. Don’t worry, with how advanced modern medical technology is, there’s nothing we can’t fix.”
Anathea said nothing, only gradually loosening her fingers. As things were, she had no other choice.
She wanted Adam to regain his memory so he could tell her the truth about the incident years ago.
She wanted to know why he would sign off on the project completion when he knew there were problems with the construction. After all, it had been a matter of life and death.
For the next few days, Anathea tended to Adam personally. Hannah and Evangeline swung by the hospital to visit him as well.
Hannah even led Anathea to the side and quietly asked, “Should I tell Mrs. Jacobson about this and bring her here to see Mr. Jacobson?”
After all, the fact that Adam had regained consciousness was still good news despite his amnesia.
“Maybe we should keep this news from her for the time being.” Anathea let out a breath. “My dad can’t remember anyone right now. It’ll only break my mom’s heart to see him like this.”
“Alright, then.” Hannah nodded in understanding.
Not long after Hannah left, Dominic showed up. When he saw the shadows under Anathea’s eyes from her lack of sleep, his heart nearly broke.
“I’ve stationed a few of our family’s bodyguards here to keep watch and hired two caretakers to look after Mr. Jacobson. You should get some rest. It won’t do you any good to wear yourself out!”
A grateful smile curved Anathea’s lips. “Thank you, Dominic.”
It was her first time addressing him by his first name. It would take her some getting used to.
Dominic’s eyes lit up at this. He raised his hand, then let it fall again. This happened several times before he finally rested his hand on top of her head and ruffled her hair.

“Don’t mention it, and don’t hesitate to ask me for help if you need any.”

“I’m fine for now,” Anathea answered honestly. However, she saw Dominic looking as if he wanted to tell her to stop himself. She prompted, “But do you need my help with anything?”

Dominic paused. Anathea had always had sharp intuition. No longer beating around the bush, he told her, “There is something I need your help with…”
After listening to what Dominic had to say, Anathea hesitated. He aided for good measure, “But you don’t have to do it if it makes you uneasy.”
“Don’t worry. Leave this to me,” Anathea reassured him, her eyes curving into crescents.
The next morning, Anathea drove and pulled up outside her destination. The skyscrapers that looked as if they were grazing the clouds and the busy streets packed with traffic were practically symbols of Castenea’s thriving economy.
Anathea got out of her car and beheld the imposing building before her. A majestic fountain decorated the entrance, featuring a large marble sculpture that was both rare and perfect. It looked all the more magnificent surrounded by a thin layer of fountain
mist.
Engraved atop the carvings of the marble sculpture were two words–Sinclair Group.
