Chapter 589
Giselle was a top–tier lawyer, well–known and respected. How could she…
“What, you don’t want to?” Louie shrugged. “If that’s the case, I have nothing left to say. This conversation’s over.”
With that, he yanked the door open, ready to
He’d thrown that condition out on purpose bec he couldn’t stand being around her for even one more second.
“Wait!”
Giselle grabbed his wrist and gritted her teeth. “Fine. One week. That’s it.”
Louie froze, doubt filling his eyes.
“But you better give it your all and do everything in your power to save Gabriel,” Giselle said through clenched teeth. “If you back out, you’re dead.”
Louie gulped.
Wait a second. Wasn’t he supposed to be the one making things difficult for her? How did it suddenly feel like he was the one being put on the spot?
The next day, Anathea packed her things early and made a stop at the hospital to say goodbye to Adam.
He was slowly eating his breakfast when she walked in. The moment he saw her, he gave her a soft smile. “Miss, you’re back again?”
He still didn’t recognize her.
A tiny pang of disappointment hit Anathea, but she quickly smiled back. “Yeah, but I won’t be around for a while. I’m heading to Cloudbrook for a trip. Dad, do you know Cloudbrook?”
She stared at him intently, trying to catch the slightest flicker of emotion in his eyes.
But Adam’s expression stayed the same. “Well, don’t be gone too long. And bring me back some souvenirs, alright?”
Anathea could only let the subject drop. She nodded. “Okay. You stay here and listen to the nurses, alright? Don’t go wandering off.”
Adam replied with a hum of acknowledgment.
Anathea gave the nurse a few final instructions before finally heading out of the ward. She hadn’t gone far when she spotted a tall figure down the hallway.
Gregory was wearing a mask and a cap, so it was hard to read his expression.
Their eyes met briefly. Anathea found his get–up odd but didn’t think too much of it. She turned the corner and pressed the elevator button.
Unexpectedly, Gregory didn’t follow.
Outside the hospital, Evangeline was already waiting for Anathea
Cloudbrook happened to have the country’s largest rare rose cultivation base, and they were looking to collaborate with Eden Studio.
Evangeline figured she would go check it out in person and keep Anathea company at the same time.
“Let’s go!” Evangeline waved her over excitedly.

Evangeline already had her sunglasses on, practically bouncing with excitement. “I
‘I can already picture it. Blue skies, puffy white clouds, fields of roses stretching forever, and the air just full of perme. It’s gonna be magical!”
A clap of thunder exploded above them. Dark clouds gathered overhead, as if a fierce storm was about to break at any moment.
As Evangeline glanced up at the gloomy sky, the corner of her mouth twitched. “Seriously?”
They drove over three hours for this?
Anathea was just as stunned.
“Let’s just find a place to stay.”
By the time they checked into the guesthouse they had booked, night had already fallen.
Anathea ordered some food, but the delivery guy seemed to have dropped it off at the wrong spot, and now she had to go out to meet him.
Evangeline was in the shower.
“I’ll be right back,” Anathea called out as she headed out alone.
A cold breeze drifted through the street, and the streetlights flickered unsteadily, as if they were malfunctioning.
Anathea quickly grabbed the takeout at the corner. When she turned around, the only working light suddenly went dark.
Ahead of her was a narrow alley swallowed in blackness. Anathea swallowed hard and picked up the pace.
She wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but aside from her own footsteps, she could hear another set trailing right behind her.
Images of true crime cases in quiet neighborhoods flashed through her head. A chill ran down her spine, and she bolted. But the footsteps behind her picked up too and were getting closer by the second.
Anathea couldn’t take it anymore. “Help!” she screamed.
Just then, a kind–looking man appeared at the end of the alley.
Anathea ran straight toward him like he was her lifeline. She’d barely opened her mouth to ask for help when the man suddenly smiled and dropped his pants right in front of her.
