Chapter 593
Gregory fried two eggs and crisped up a few slices of Spam. In another pot, he boiled a handful of macaroni. Once the pasta was done, he tossed it with melted butter, a splash of milk, and a handful of shredded cheddar, then topped it with the eggs, Spam,
and steamed spinach.
Before long, a bowl of creamy mac and cheese was placed in front of Anathea.
The savory aroma rose into the air, making her swallow unconsciously. It did look a lot more appetizing than the takeout.
“Try it.” Gregory handed her a clean fork and spoon with eyes full of anticipation.
Anathea took her time with the first bite. The rich, comforting flavor filled her mouth. She hadn’t expected Gregory’s cooking to be this good now.
“Is it good?” he asked.
After swallowing, Anathea replied with a nonchalant, “It’s okay.”
But Gregory didn’t look the least bit disappointed. Instead, he reached over, took her spoon, and stole a bite.
“That’s my spoon!” She shot him a glare.
“We’ve kissed more than a few times. Sharing a spoon isn’t a big deal,” he said without a hint of shame. After tasting it, he nodded. “I think it’s pretty good.”
He’d clearly been waiting for her to say that it tasted okay just so he could use her spoon.
Anathea stood up and grabbed a new spoon for herself. Ignoring him, she continued eating.
Gregory didn’t push it. As he watched her eat with obvious enjoyment, the smile in his eyes deepened. Then he reached for a napkin and gently wiped the corner of her mouth. “Slow down. No one’s taking it from you. I can always make more.”
Anathea took the napkin from him. Her tone was distant as she said, “I’ve got it. Keep your hands to yourself.”
But the flicker of emotion in her eyes didn’t escape Gregory. He let go of the napkin and quietly put some distance between them.
Outside, the wind had been howling for a while. Then came the heavy sound of rain pouring down. Rainwater streamed steadily
from the eaves, washing over the courtyard.
Anathea was quietly relieved she’d come back when she did. Any later, and she would’ve been soaked.
She’d asked the guesthouse owner about it earlier and learned Cloudbrook had been drowning in rain for nearly a month now. He’d even warned them to be careful when heading out. Mudslides were common in the surrounding hills.
Anathea grew a little worried. With weather this bad, how was she supposed to track down Roy’s exact address?
Before long, Martin came back with an umbrella in hand. He walked straight over to Gregory. “Mr. Sinclair, I’ve located Roy Baxter’s house. It’s in the next village over.”
Gregory gave a small nod, then looked over at Anathea. Just as he expected, she was staring at him with wide eyes.
“How do you know?”
How could he have possibly known she came here looking for Roy?
Unless…
“You looked into me?” Anathea set her cutlery down. Her gaze instantly turned cautious as she looked at him.
And here she’d been thinking this was all just some random coincidence. It turned out that it was all planned from the start.

“Don’t call me that,” Anathea cut him off coldly. “Mr. Sinclair, were not nearly close enough for you to be using a nickname.”
The room turned icy in an instant, just when things had finally started to case between then.
Martin could practically feel the chill in the room bearing down on him. He quietly stepped aside to avoid getting caught in the
crossfire.
Outside, the rain came down harder, drumming against the leaves like it was trying to tear right through them.
Anathea stood up and made for the stairs. She didn’t want to see Gregory’s face for another second.
He was way too cunning. If she let her guard down for even a second, he would have her playing right into his hands.
Hurried footsteps sounded behind her, and Gregory grabbed her hand, stopping her from leaving.
“Let go!” Anathea yanked, clearly uncomfortable with him touching her.
Gregory didn’t budge.
“Gregory!” she snapped.
“Just listen to me first!” He raised his voice too, matching hers.
Before she could interrupt again, he rushed to explain, “I didn’t look into you! But I’ve been digging into everything connected to Adam.”
