I looked at his bloodshot eyes and slowly shook my head.
“Theo Maddox, you remember all of that”
“Except the one thing that mattered most–I hate being lied to.”
It reminded me of how Everett lied to my mother her entire life, lied until it killed her.
Theo’s eyes went red as he screamed desperately:
“Amelia, for the baby’s sake! Give me one last chance! I’m the biological father!”
I took a deep breath and finally said:
“You don’t deserve to mention this child. If it weren’t for Axel, I would’ve lost the baby already.”
Theo froze, clearly having no idea what I was talking about.
“Step aside. My wife gets disgusted by trash.”
Axel swept me up in his arms and placed me gently in the back seat.
His tall frame immediately pressed down over me.
Outside the window, Theo was frantically pounding on the glass.
Axel ignored him completely, his tongue parting my lips to deepen the kiss.
“Don’t get distracted,” his voice was husky. “Just focus on me.”
I was amazed by the deep emotion hidden beneath this kiss.
His breathing was heated. After calming down for a moment, he offered an explanation.
“What if I told you I’ve been waiting for you to look back at me just once since your eighteenth birthday? Would you believe me?”
My heart skipped a beat.
He’d been a guest at that party. He’s cold and distant the entire time..
All I remembered was him refusing the drink I offered.
“That’s not for little girls,” he’d said back then.
“So all these years you’ve been…”
His lips brushed my ear. “Waiting for an opportunity. Waiting for you to need me.”
It started raining outside the window again.
But this time, someone held the umbrella for me.
