Chapter 11
Theo kept drinking, drowning in everything he couldn’t undo.
Until the butler handed him Emily’s phone.
That’s when Theo realized their affair had been exposed long ago.
The butler even pulled up surveillance footage from that shitty clinic.
Me lying on the ground, covered in blood. I was shoved around, doused with water and screamed at…
And at that exact moment, he was vacationing in the Maldives with Emily.
“The doctor said Miss Brooks didn’t have a single dollar on her…”
He’d never seen so clearly how pathetic and stupid he’d been.
He always thought he was spoiling Amelia and he’s the source of her greatest happiness.
But the truth?
He’d personally driven her and her mother to the brink!
Endless regret and self–hatred consumed Theo.
“Bring Emily here.” He ordered through gritted teeth.
When the bodyguards dragged Emily into the study, she had no idea what was happening.
She stumbled and choked out a sob. “Theo, they’re hurting me…”
But when her eyes landed on the surveillance footage, her face went white. She immediately started fake crying.
“Theo, I love you! Since I first saw you at sixteen… Amelia had everything, but I’m Dad’s daughter too. Why shouldn’t I get anything?”
Theo was done listening to her bullshit, his gaze falling on her swollen belly.
“Get rid of that bastard. Now.”
Emily looked like she’d been struck by lightning, desperately grabbing at Theo’s pants.
“What?! No! Please, this is our child!”
When begging didn’t work, Emily laughed maniacally through her tears:
“Theo Maddox, you’re the one who froze her bank cards! You’re the one who fake–married her! You want it all, you piece of shit. Stop pretending to be
some romantic hero!”
Theo looked like he’d been stabbed, violently shaking off Emily’s hands.
“Ah!”
Emily crashed hard into the coffee table, blood streaming down her thighs.
“Theo… please… save our baby…”
Theo watched coldly and walked away.

Chapter 11
Emily had to call her father, only to hear an even more devastating response:
“Emily… I just had your mother committed to a mental institution.”
Everett’s voice had an eerie cheerfulness.
“Now be a good girl and go apologize to Amelia. Daddy’s almost a Donovan in–law now!”
By the time the police broke into the suite, Emily was barely alive.
Before her pupils dilated, she whispered her final words:
“Karma… it’s all karma.”
Three months later, my daughter was born.
Axel called a family meeting. Everyone from the Donovan family was there.
Axel publicly signed wealth transfer documents, giving me 50% of the Donovan fortune.
The other 50% went to our daughter, held in trust by him until she turned eighteen.
“From today on, I’m just working for you two ladies.” Axel joked, his eyes full of adoration.
Everyone was a bit surprised, but they were used to Axel’s iron–clad decisions.
They all offered congratulations.
The LED screen showed breaking news:
“Maddox Industries Files for Bankruptcy, Former CEO Theo Maddox Leaves Suicide Note, Suspected Building Jump”
“Foreign National Everett Brooks Deported for Economic Crimes, Returned to Netherlands This Morning”
Nolan hurried over with a letter in his hand.
“Ma’am, Theo Maddox’s suicide note… would you like to read it?”
The entire room went quiet. All eyes were on me.
Axel frowned but didn’t stop me.
He just silently took my hand, wordlessly supporting whatever I decided.
I shook my head, voice soft and steady. “No need.”
Nolan nodded and stepped back.
Axel reached up to turn off the TV, a flash of both heartache and pride in his eyes.
He softly kissed my forehead. “It’s all over,”
I leaned into his embrace, looking at our daughter’s peaceful sleeping face.
Then I smiled.
“No. It’s a new beginning.”
I was no longer anyone’s caged pet.

Chapter 11
I could be my daughter’s mother, I could be Mrs. Donovan.
But the most important, I could be myself.
My own life was just getting started.
