Chapter 13
Logan returned to the villa, soaked and silent.
Grace rushed over, concern written across her face.
“Logan, I heard that Emily passed away. Please… don’t be too sad…”
His eyes immediately turned cold.
“Grace, did you already know that Emily was dead?”
Grace froze. She realized she couldn’t hide it any longer and softened her voice.
“I was afraid you’d take it too hard. I wanted to wait… to tell you later.”
Logan let out a sharp laugh and raised his phone. The screen was still lit with images- photos Grace had sent.
“Grace, didn’t I tell you to stay away from her?”
“Logan…”
“I told you I needed to handle things with Emily myself. Did you not understand that?”
The air in the villa dropped several degrees. Logan reached out and clutched her neck, his fingers pressing tightly.
Grace trembled.
“I just… I care about you too much. I was afraid she’d take you away from me.”
Logan laughed, the sound dry and bitter.
If Grace had ever loved him, why had she abandoned him overseas three years ago?
The only person who had truly loved him… was gone.
He closed his eyes.
“Tomorrow’s engagement,” he said flatly, “is cancelled.”
“What did you just say?”
“The Morgan Family will receive full termination notices from the Logan Group.”
Grace panicked.
“Logan, the invitations are already out. You can’t-”
She didn’t get the chance to finish.
The rest of her words were shut out by the sound of the door slamming behind her.
Logan’s lips curled into a cold, cruel smile.
Then let everything be buried with me.
The news of the canceled engagement between the Logan and Morgan families spread through the city like wildfire.
And what followed shook the city to its core.
The Logan Group began a relentless campaign against the Morgan Group, pushing them.

to the brink.
Within six months, the Morgan Family was bankrupt.

The Carter Family’s elite private hospital–once thriving–was shut down and erased from the city.
People speculated wildly.
What could the Morgan and Carter families have done to provoke the most powerful man in this city?
But no one knew the answer.
No one knew it was all for the woman buried in the quiet cemetery beyond the southern hills.
Grace was sacrificed by her own family.
She was handed over to Logan, who didn’t even spare her a glance.
He sent her to a nightclub owned by the Logan Group.
The place was wild and unchecked. He knew exactly what kind of welcome awaited her
there.
As for James, he had been crippled and cast out of the city long ago.
Revenge was complete.
But Logan felt hollow.
Each day, he returned to that hillside cemetery.
He’d kneel beside Emily’s grave, read her journal and place it gently back in the clear box just as it had been.
“Mr. Reed, it’s time for your medication,” the family doctor reminded him gently.
Logan waved the man away, fingers tracing my name on the stone.
“Emily… was this how much it hurt?”
The irony wasn’t lost on him.
The man who had faked cancer now had it for real.
Stomach cancer.
As if fate had decided to punish him in kind.
He refused all treatment. He didn’t want to numb the pain.
He welcomed it.
Every time he closed his eyes, he saw me.
My smile. My tears. My quiet, fading figure.
It was the only way he could feel close to me again.
“Emily,” he whispered, “I’ll see you soon.”
“I don’t think I ever told you… that I love you.”
