Chapter 7
Time passed by minute by minute and I didn’t show up, which made Lucia a little flustered.
She asked John to call and ask where I was. But the call didn’t go through at all. Because I
blocked John too.
Lucia realized something and hurriedly took out her mobile phone to dial.
When she heard the prompt tone that the call could not be connected, her brows tightened.
“What on earth is Gerald doing!? Engagement is such a big thing and you are going to get angry with me?”
John gloated and fanned the flames, “Lucia, I don’t think he cares about you at all. It’s better not to have such a man. I’ll go explain to your mom and dad and cancel the engagement party.”
Lucia shook her head, “No, I have to go find him.”
After saying that, she put down the flowers and engagement ring and ran out of the hotel holding her skirt.
All the guests were stunned and Lucia’s father and mother also looked confused, not knowing what happened.
Looking at Lucia’s back, John’s eyes flashed a gloomy and then he chased out.
Soon, the two rushed home and saw only an empty room.
I took all my things away. No trace was left.
Lucia was stunned for a full half minute.
The originally angry and anxious heart sank to the bottom of the valley. Then it became
empty.
Just like losing the most beloved toy when I was a child.
In addition to surprise, John’s face was more fortunate.
He said softly, “Lucia, this kind of man is not worth your sadness, let alone your love. Because he has no sense of responsibility. Even if you marry him, you will not be happy.” As soon as the voice fell, there was a knock on the door. Lucia thought I was back, her face showed joy and she immediately ran to open the door.
But the person standing outside the door was a strange man.
“Hello, Miss Morgan, I am Gerald’s friend.”
The man handed her an envelope and said, “This is what Gerald asked me to pass on to you. He also asked me to tell you that he has left and will never come back.”
Lucia opened the envelope.
The first thing that caught her eyes was my mother’s death certificate.
“Died of cardiac arrest on January 28th…”
She suddenly remembered that after receiving a call from John on the Luminaria Festival,

he left me and my mother on the road despite the hot weather of nearly 50 degrees.
Less than a minute after the car drove out, I called frantically.

She could only answer impatiently, “Gerald, I told you to take a taxi by yourself, you don’t understand what I’m saying, right?”
Lucia was struck by lightning and trembled all over.
It turned out that the call I made at that time was not because I was dissatisfied. It was because my mother had a heart attack and urgently needed the AED device in the car.
But she was thinking about taking care of John and turned off her phone directly. It was equivalent to cutting off the last channel of my mother’s life.
Lucia’s eyes were filled with tears of regret and self–blame.
After five years together, she knew how important my mother was to me. Not long after I was born, my father died in a car accident. My mother did not remarry, nor did she
abandon me, but raised me with her own hands.
Life was hard, but she had no regrets. So I was very motivated and filial. For my mother, I installed AEDs in all five cars under our names.
I was worried that my mother would not be treated in time when her old illness relapsed.
But I never expected that no matter how well prepared I was, Lucia could not beat a phone
call from John…
Lucia was distraught, “I killed Gerald’s mom, I am guilty! How sad and desperate Gerald must have been at that time! But I mistakenly thought he was throwing a tantrum and
blamed him for breaking his promise…”
John stepped forward to comfort her, “Lucia, this is not your fault, you cannot be blamed. If you want to blame someone, blame Mr. Burkett for not making it clear, you did not mean
it.”
Lucia suddenly pushed him away. “Shut up!”
John was stunned.
From childhood to adulthood, Lucia had never yelled at him, let alone got angry.
“Lucia, what’s wrong with you?”
Lucia threw another document in the envelope at John’s face, pointed outside and said coldly, “John, I never want to see you again, get out!”
After seeing the content of the document, John was completely dumbfounded.
This was the information I asked my friend to investigate yesterday.
First, John didn’t have a stomach problem at all. Everything before was just an act.
Second, John embezzled public funds and bought a huge amount of Morgan Group’s stocks privately, just to make a fortune after the press conference.
So when I announced my withdrawal from Morgan Group, causing the stock to hit the limit, he panicked.
